Battled the heat today and changed the oil in my 2019 with 5,000 miles. Headed to the Sierra Nevadas in two weeks, so I wanted to get this sorted out before the trip.

WM has 0W20 Mobil 1 Extended Performance on roll back for $25.77 for a 5 quart jug. The 5.7L iForce requires 8.5 quarts of course. With the M1 $12 rebate this reduces the per jug cost to $13.77 or $2.75 per quart. $23.37 for 8.5 quarts. $5 for OEM oil filter. $1 for new drain bolt washer. Total was $29.37.

Is this a big savings? I’m unsure what the dealer charges; however, I won’t let them touch my truck unless it’s an absolute requirement. I can ensure the job was done perfectly. While under there I even added a very thin coating of anti-seize to all skid plate bolts. 60 minutes of effort in the heat and approximately 30 big ones and I’m good for 10,000 miles.

Loaded it up with some work gear and put a few miles on it after the job was complete.

Yup Kids. That's how you do it. And that's WHY you do it.

Consider adding a Fumoto valve in place of the drain bolt and it gets even easier.

I think typically dealers charge something like $75? I do my own oil changes too and with a fumoto valve and RCI skid it's about as easy as it'll get

I always do my own as well, but haven't been able to due to shoulder issue, so I took it in to Valvoline (big mistake). $123 for full synthetic and cleaning agent. The monkey underneath complained about the RCI skid being too far away from the filter cap, got oil in his eyes and had a new monkey take over to finish the job. They tell me all is done and great when finished and send me on my way. I got home and took a peak...***do your own work like @georgiey22 to avoid messes like this***

You have Toyota Care for 2 years 25k miles. The oil is due every 10k miles. The maintenance light comes on every 5k for a rotation. So you weren't due for the oil change yet and it's free from Toyota so you over spent.

Not really "ballin" if you're trying to save a few dollars on an oil change.

Doesn't Toyota offer free oil changes for the first few on FFV? That was the case with the 2 Tundras I have purchased, but I also get extended maintenance to cover me for for the first 100k miles or so.

Yeah, I've known several millionaires that wear inexpensive white tennis shoes, jeans, and plain oxfords. Drive a regular car/truck, save more than they spend. Couldn't tell by looking at them that they had tons of money.

There's a huge difference between being a millionaire and "ballin".

I'm running the Plain Jane F-103. No nipple. Nuttin. I just open the valve and let it fall. Others like the nipple variety and add a piece of hose/tubing to carry it down into the drain pan.

Here's a link to Fumoto's site for the 2017 Tundra with the 5.7L engine (what I have).

    http://fumotousa.com/results.php?make=79&year=2017&model=36532&makeid=TOYOTA&modelid=Tundra+5.7L+V8

EDIT: just FYI but I run the simple F-103 on all four of my Toyota vehicles.

I went by my local jeep dealer to get a refund on my oil change contract. (10 for $200 on my recently sold JK Wrangler) Full service. They wouldn't refund my last 3 but they offered me one for my Tundra (after the 2 year Toyota dealer freebie is up) They were at 4 for $100 on the 5.7L. They were packed and I forgot to ask what oil. I'll ask tomorrow. Full service oil change and a check on the alignment machine before heading into the bay is what have had for the past 4 years. Can't beat it.

This neighbor is the grandson of a fashion brand we all likely wear, very well off. He is trying to teach his son work ethic and asked me to teach his son how to change the oil on his sons 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro. For the most part, the neighbors in this area keep to themselves and let me do my thing. He laughs with me over beers on the weekends because I also cut my own lawn. I enjoy hard work.

Unfortunately dealers are typically no better than the Quickie Lube shops when it comes to oil changes. Wish I had time to share why I hold this opinion. Nonetheless, we all have our way of doing things, I respect yours, hope it works for you.

Noticed you are in KC, I’ll be in KC next week on business. Looking forward to enjoying a few nice meals before heading to Omaha for a Berkshire event. Best of luck to you shakezoola.

When I purchased the truck here in CA. Prior to writing the check for the truck, I required the dealer to discount the truck an additional $250 because I wasn’t going to use Toyota Care (Value of 2 OCI’s & Rotations), they weren’t pumped on the idea. They wanted my check, so they agreed. Do you believe I still over spent?

This stinks pal. Sorry you experienced this, pains me to see. For this very reason I try and service all of my vehicles. It’s a pain and dirty work but after a similar experience I try and be planful around the work. Next time you are the Los Angeles area look me up, I’d be happy to buy you a few beers and hear the story of how you managed the situation with this shop.
