Toyota Venza with 130K and the suspension was sucking so I bought four KYB quick struts and replaced all of them and the little rods that you cannot get off because of rust. You need to cut them off. Now I hear a noise. Threw out old struts a month ago. I removed all wheels today to check my work. Everything looks correct and tight. Seems like noise is coming from top of strut?
I was just wondering if the top three nuts need washers? There are two grey washers out of three nuts? I was just wondering if the third one got moved and is what is making the noise? I hope one of my new struts is not defective? I bought the brand Toyota used. Thanks for any help. D0F7494EE-B527-4840-BFFB-B93CA1C330E0.jpg0A324477-810D-4120-AADE-06D628B533F3.jpg

Is that a strut tower support brace under 2 of them, going over to the other side? Then I can see why those would have a washer. But usually strut top nuts don't use washers, they just go right onto the tower.

What kind of noise is it? Like a creak?

Hmmmm. Maybe they didn't get the top bushings and washers lined up properly when they assembled them. Creaking is usually metal on metal contact in my experience, so it could be the shaft of the strut contacting the top mount. That would eventually look like these photos attached.

But since they were factory assembled, I can't see why they would do it wrong.

Thanks for the help. I just ordered two front new ones and will swap them out . Hopefully that fixes problem. Then I will return defective ones for refund to Rock Auto. Peace. D

I've seen @empty_lord commenting on some peoples other Toyota vehicle problems lately. Seems to know his stuff. Maybe he can help, I think he's a Toyota Master Tech?

Did you replace the strut mounts? They’re wonderful for making noise if not

EDIT: I’m blind and missed the quick strut part. Most likely a bad upper mount. Warranty it and go from there

Installed the to new strut-plus and same noise. Messed with everything for five more days and said screw it. Took car to my local go to guys little shop. The little control arms I replaced were both not on tight enough. $45.00 and I am a happy camper. Thanks for all the help.
    Love yours. D
