Chainsaws?

What kind of chainsaws are you guys running? I've got both stihls and Husqvarnas. Here's my 576xp with a 24" bar.

 

they're the only two brands i'd trust for a chainsaw.... I have a baby 18" Husqvarna and love it - bomb proof reliable - built like a tank and does what i want, when i want with no surprises - kind of essential with one of those things...

 

I have an 18" Stihl. Thing is a beast.

 

I've got a 16" stihl, that's a baby saw. But the number of times I've dropped it from a tree and nothings happened shows the build quality. My 20 inch Husqvarna is 12 years old and still runs like new.

My stihl 250 has an 18" bar and it's the perfect balance for all day use, but sometimes ya need a little more power.

 

I thought about getting a larger saw but was then honest with myself... I have no business cutting anything larger than my 18" can handle... if i need a bigger saw, I need to call in the pros

 

My 576xp had a 28" bar but that was way to heavy to manage. I don't use the big saw much just when I have to. I'm no pro but I run into alot of trees.
The bigger saws are a bit more trouble to use I'd rather stay safe and use the smaller ones. I'm not logging. My next saw will be a one handed saw most likely a stihl. Currently I use the 16" stihl when I climb the trees.

I picked up a fs90 weed wacker and that's one good machine cuts through everything. My 18" is always in my truck now it's the perfect size. I stay away from those off brand homedepot or Menard specials.

That's what my 20" is, I fell off of a tree with that saw and it was perfectly fine.

 

Stihl 18". Like tomsinamerica said, If that won't cut it I probably need some help.

Agreed! We have two on the farm plus a 562 XP w/ a 28" bar. We cut everything from roots to 48" diameter oaks.
Key is to run them often, put a little Sta-Bil in the tank when they're stored and keep the chains sharp.
Can't stress safety enough - it's easy to get in some hairy situations if you're not thinking about which way a limb (or trunk!)
is stressed when you're cutting it.
Anyone who runs a chainsaw with any regularity and says they've never done anything that scared the shit out of them is lying!

 

Jonsered CS2255, 20". Piece of crap, as far as I'm concerned. It does the job and does it well with a chisel chain. But the dang thing will empty the chain oil tank overnight. Leakage is one thing, that I'd expect. But to empty the tank in a matter of hours is wrong. When I wrote to Husqvarna about it (they make Jonsered) they took three months to reply and when they finally did, said I should empty the tank after use. BS!!! Going to get a Stihl one of these days.

 

I have a stihl 310 and 362. Both are great saws.

 

I have a Stihl ms290 20"farmboss and a Shindaiwa pole saw for limbing up and pruning.

 

Dolmar 5100s....I just use it for the 6-7 cords of firewood a year...and cleanup around the property. I always trust the company that invented the chainsaw

Husqvarna 455 for me video is of a pretty big oak next to my house. What you can't see is the winch truck sitting in my neighbors driveway and the cable up in the top of the tree to ensure it went where we wanted it to. You'll have to excuse the video quality it was taken with an iphone from pretty good distance away.

Dolmar was bought by Makita. I run that saw side by side next to my dads husky's...it stands up.

 

I got the joke...German tech...is great! Mercedes still leads in innovation...you couldn't give me one though..I have never used a mechanic and would hate to see the cost of the specialized tools I would need to own one. When I owned a VW it was bad enough

 

No kidding. I went thru two XXXX brand saws and said never again. Got a pro grade Dolmar and I seriously doubt I'll ever need another saw. It can eat.

 

Yup mine is a pro saw too...otherwise it would just be a 510...5100 is pro and the s stands for speed...lol...I think cuts at 17,500 rpm's...with that 3/8 chain.

 

I promise I'm not trying to one up. Found mine via a Canadian supplier who (cough) modified the carb and tuned it for me before sending.
