I’m thinking about dropping the $100 on an Adams Polishes ceramic coating kit. They are a local CO company, so that’s a plus, but is ceramic coating worth the hype? And if so how’s the best way to achieve a successful job?

    Thanks

I have only used the Meguires. Even though everyone says it does a half-assed job, it works great compared to other waxes I have ever used, so I would say do it.

Go ahead and do yourself. Other threads in here from folks who had it done at a detail shop are quoting prices of anywhere from $400 to 500 and even more depending on the area. So it is definitely cheaper to do on your own

If it's a true ceramic coating...know that the key is prep work! Your majority of effort is generally in your prep. Good luck regardless.

I did my truck and prep took most of the day.

I think it was worth it and I got to detail the shit out of my truck

That and I ran over a gallon of paint and it rinsed right off

I got ceramic pro with the lifetime warranty so I may be an outlier here, but it’s amazing. Aftercare is easy and overall even though the price was high. I’m extremely satisfied with it.

I used the meguiars ceramic spray on my last wash and my truck looks like glass. Better than other spray waxes ive tried but not nearly as thick as a wax on/off product. For the price ($13-14) and the amount of labor required (spray wax on, shoot truck with water, microfiber dry), i would use it again.

You can get Carpro CQuartz for less money, and it’s (as far as this forum at least) more proven. The actual application is pretty easy, but the prep work is pretty labor intensive. You’ll need to do a paint decontamination with IronX and clay, followed by a paint correction. This requires a DA polisher and a lot of work. This is why companies charge so much. It’s not so much the actual application, it’s the amount of work and supplies it takes to get the paint right.

Of course, you could skip the prep work, but the coating won’t last as long and you’d be sealing in any defects.

The iron x was wild to see all the deposits on a brand new vehicle.

Yeah, people don’t realize how bad it is even on a brand new car.

+1 on ceramic pro- I have had it for 2 years on the tundra 3 years on the 4Runner- It comes w/ a lifetime warranty and 3-5 years of re-up. I take it to the detailer and they add/polish each year for free (3-5 years) Cost was 350.00 from an authorized dealer in central Cali. Water runs off as it was just waxed 8 months later.

Wife’s 4Runner has this - pretty amazing stuff. The cleaning/maintenance washes are too easy now. I’ll either go opti coat or cquartz on my truck.

Adams is ten minutes from my house. I’ve got ceramic on my wife’s 4Runner and use buttery was on my Silverado. DIY full paint correction. It’s good stuff. The problem is it’s been reinvented 2 or 3 times since I used it. Some of their products are great, some are misses. Good example is the ceramic boost that I got with my ceramic kit. It was an older generation and streaked like crazy. They swapped it out for me without hesitation but..... I wish they’d dial things in before bringing them to market. They love bringing new products out. If you buy in person you can usually count on a pretty good discount at the register. The showroom is a corner of the warehouse and it’s crazy to see the volume they’re running out of that place.. Also between myself and other guys in the shop we’ve used just about everything they offer, if you have questions about the hits and misses feel free to ask.

Anyone use AMMO? https://www.ammonyc.com/ This may not be the proper place for this since the post is for Ceramic coating.

I used Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating 5 years ago ($119 on Autogeeks). Then we moved and due to a crammed pack garage, stuck my black Tundra out in the Arizona Sun for 3.5 years. The sun rotted all my moldings and the window belt moldings disintegrated. I also had planned to trade my truck in so I wasn't the best about washing it and never waxed it in those years. And guess what, the black paint still looks amazing with deep gloss. I'm a believer! The actual coating is stupid easy to apply but as the poster stated above, the prep work is what matters. You must remove every last bit of wax and grime prior to applying the coating.
