Tried searching for some info about these and came up with zippo.

CBI Offroad Fab - Toyota Tundra Front Overland Skid Plate | 2014-2020 -

CBI Offroad Fab - Toyota Tundra Full Overland Skid Plate Set | 2014-2020 -

I understand the RCI is what most go with but really like the look of these but the fact that nobody seems to have it scares me. I know CBI generally makes serious quality stuff but can be pricey although this skid is right in the range of the standards. Also, the full overland set if you look at the pic really seems to offer as much if not more in the way of catalytic converter protection then even the one everyone is buying now. While I hate to be "The Arsehole" who takes away from the small business guy this CBI is a matched set and looks likes serious protection. Can anyone offer their views and maybe some pics of either/both skid plates installed. The web seems to only offer scale drawings but nothing on a truck. Thanks.

I have these skids and they are easy to install and cover more area than the RCI. 26B5A9E3-9166-4AAA-AEFB-2C88D172D9B7.jpg166FE2E3-0EB3-4119-AFA4-CCA45BF012A1.jpg

Does it protect the cats? Hard to tell in that pic for sure, but it looks like it does.

I am trying to decide on full length skid plates and am between the CBI and RCI as well. I am not sure if CBI still does aluminum or not that might be the deciding factor. The CBI look to offer wider protection near the cats and it looks like the angle in the front is more streamlined. This is about all I could find.

CBI does not currently have aluminum for the Tundra because of the weight they were not holding up as well.

I am trying hard to not exceed full payload when truck with AT Atlas topper is also towing. Aluminum would be better than nothing is where I am at with it. With only 1360lbs. payload it requires some planning.

The RCI tranny skid will not cover the cats. You would need the Desert Eagle skid to be able to cover them.

The CBI trans skid looks interesting. It looks like it provides as much cat protection as the desert eagle skid and also looks like it protects the transfer case.

It covers the transfer case better than any I have seen on the market.

I understand not wanting to add a lot of weight but I wouldn’t skimp on armor unless it’s going to be a street truck.

Can you post Picts showing the front and rear cats? I’d like to compare coverage to my desert eagle skid.

This is interesting, while I probably don't need the extra skid protection (not much off-roading) I am thinking of cat protection. And also would be nice to have oil filter access hole.

Thanks! This is very helpful. Because the cbi skid protects the transfer case it looks like the rear cats are more protected than with the de skid. I think I’ll be calling cbi on Monday to ask about using with the rci engine skid.

The extra coverage of the transfer case is one of the biggest reasons I went with CBI as well.

I switched from the rci skid skid to the desert eagle skid for the cat protection. Then on my first off-road trip after the swap I slammed down on my transfer case.:annoyed:

Thanks for the pics. Was exactly what I was looking for. From your shots it actually seems to protect the cats significantly more. It travels further back and the sides are raised more. To the person who posted 175lbs I saw that and agree completely but the weight that matters is the difference. If the RCI two piece weighs 100lbs or 120lbs the actual weight is really not that much plus the bonus of cat protection and transfer case protection. The actual problem I found was shipping. They wanted over $200 to get it to my door. SDHQ is just down the road from me in Gilbert, AZ so I got lucky there but if you don't live near a major 4x4 supplier then that $200+ thank-you fee is a tad high.

I agree the freight is high but I found that truck brigade had a little better shipping rate than ordering direct but not much more. These skids actually shipped freight on a pallet though which is the biggest reason for the high cost.

CBI’s freight-only shipping at $200+ is why I went with RCI when I was engine skid shopping.

Sadly I too am looking for a multi-purpose solution, without getting hands on with the product and the lack of photos installed it is tough to judge viability as a cat theft deterrent.

While researching I cam across this thumbnail...

    ED3263FE-48CC-4A40-99BB-7B98A730E9E8.jpg

my thoughts it will not be enough of a deterrent, but boy these skids are pretty BA.

Pretty sure the above thumbnail is not of a Tundra as the Tundra Skids are 3 piece. Anyways, I installed the CBI plates this past week and figured I'd add some photos to show the access to cats after CBI Overland plate install.

My opinion, is it as effective as a dedicated CAT Theft Protection Plate, likely not, but could it serve as a deterrent from somebody looking for an easy score, I think so.

This was all super helpful, much appreciated. Without threadjacking too badly, does anyone know if the CBI skid needs spacers or anything if I have a diff drop? I know RCI offers them, but I haven't been able to find any info about the CBI. Thanks in advance.
