A hot subject in other threads, but haven't seen this alternative discussed (easy to miss if buried in big threads). Anyway caught the tail end of news feed that also offered painting it a bright color with heat resistant paint is deterrent, as it is easy to identify and the folks stealing don't want to spend time scraping it clean. It also offered that engraving the VIN somewhere will also assist police should a recovery happen. Just thought I would toss an alternative out there for you owners.

A thief won't give 2 flying F's if the cats are painted or etched with the VIN. Neither of those is an effective deterrent and in the end you will still end up with missing cats and a repair bill.

A garage doesn't matter. They will steal them at work or a grocery store.

It’s always puzzled me why people stuff the garage with a few grand worth of junk they never use, then leave 100k worth of vehicles sitting in the driveway.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it always puzzles me why someone would park a hot car inside their house during the summer. Or how someone would be able to go to bed after parking a 220° block of metal with plastic fuel lines under pressure mounted on it in their house.

There are many things that others do with which I disagree which proves that we are all different and entitled to make our own decisions. I am grateful that we are not mandated to do everything the way someone else chooses or forces us. The privilege of stupidity is wonderful for all of us and we all think the other person is the stupid one.

Unfortunately, with the layout of my garage, even though my garage is clean, and organized - my truck just wont fit in it without blocking the door to get into/out of the house.

Back at ya with no direspect..but the amount of hot car explosions that I’m aware of vs. amount of vehicles parked in home garages over the last, say 40 years, is a “gamble” I’m completely comfortable with.

I added a heated garage for my convenience to the house. And my cars and trucks stay in a garage. They get washed in the garage. All the time. Especially during the winter time. My tundra Pro when I get it. It’s going in the garage also.

I can't park my Tundra in the garage and my friend can't park his F-250 either. It's now a large tool collective, mini gym, and wine making facility. Thanks by the way;)
Edit. We both park out back in a large fenced in area along with friends wife's car at night. Security camera's surround the house with motion sensor lights out back too. Helps deterring a bit and my chainsaw....

This is the weirdest comment I’ve ever read on this site, and there have been a bunch of weird posts.

Yeah, painting cats as a deterrent prolly accomplishes nada. Stolen illegally, sold illegally to illegal buyers who prolly cut the cats up to extract the innards which is the big score. The remnants get scrapped and crushed to be never seen again.

and........there are millions of garages with a vehicle or 2+ inside. Definitely a potential explosion I guess.

My Tundra fits my garage as well as with two other cars just like a three car garage should.
I've never worried about any explosions in all the 23 years I lived in my house. The garage is attached and all the bedrooms are on the opposite side. I've got a good home owners policy too for peace of mind.

@gosolo has a scary big one. Seriously, it's nice to have a large garage. The older homes here have garages made to fit pre 70 trucks. Nice houses but trucks got bigger.

Bottom line...there is are several decent options posted here on the forum that will truly deter ass whipes from sawing off cats. Slow them down....they move on to the easier score. Same with tailgates.

Look through the studs on the right side of the picture. That’s my tundra with a cover on her to keep her clean (er)! After the wall is finished, I may not need the cover. For now, I’m sweeping up about a pound of steel dust and scale per week. It’s amazing how much gets on the truck cover. As for cat protection, I’m replacing my RCI skid with a plate from Tyler

Nah, it’s my 2015. But I’ve got nearly 19,000 miles on her now, so I guess it’s almost broken in!
