Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a new exhaust for my 5.7. I have looked at several and almost settled on the cat-back from Carven Exhaust. I was curious if anyone has gotten this set up and how aggressive it sounded and preformed?

Yeah I've noticed that on here lol but from everything I've heard, it just isn't the sound I'm wanting out of my truck. No offense to anyone that has their systems lol

No personal experience, but there was a separate thread on this exhaust in the performance section. Seems like it could be a quality piece - 304 ss. Didn't see any information about pipe sizing though. Looks like it would be on the loud side - the mufflers are small, and the one model doesn't have any packing material in it - looks like a perforated ring or something. I don't see how drone would be controlled either.

Since @dirtydeeds offers so many different sizes and options for exhaust, I'm confused on what you mean about its not the sound you are looking for. To each his own, but this dude knows his shit when it comes to exhaust and the 5.7 engine. Best of luck though in your quest for better exhaust! :hattip:

I want the performance of an aftermarket and I want it louder and more aggressive sounding, but exhausts so loud that they pop when you get on it aren't what I'm wanting.

I'm not steering you to or from any exhaust - because sound preference and drone tolerance is different for everyone. But in terms of performance, with stock manifolds and cats, there is only so much power that will be freed up with an aftermarket exhaust, and most of that will be in the mid to top range. You want to make sure you don't loose too much bottom end by over sizing the pipe diameters.

I gotcha. Larger pipes would cause what I'm not wanting (as far as sound goes) right?

Yes and just about every manufacturer out there only offer the larger diameter with their products..... I'm sure the general mindset is bigger is always better

Larger pipes will make the exhaust louder (and probably deeper sounding) and improve high rpm numbers, but at the expense of low end.

Again - not pushing Keith's exhaust on you, but he has posted a lot of information about scavenging and reversion and how pipe diameter impacts all this - which I will not even attempt to paraphrase or quote as my own. You can probably find it in the performance section.

That's why I was curious about the pipe diameters that the Carven exhaust uses.

Yeah. I've been reading through threads on here for the last 2 hours about pipe sizes and all that good stuff. Just trying to make sure I don't purchase something and immediately regret it lol

    I don't blame you.

The 2 3/4 inch pipe diameter that Toyota puts on the Tundra seems to be the key to maintaining low end torque. Upsizing that will reduce bottom end. Now if you don't tow anything or drive on a lot of inclined roads, you may never notice it. If you do, you may notice that truck doesn't hold high gear and downshifts more frequently.

In terms of drone control, Keith has stated that OEM and Corsa are the only manufacturers that have drone cancellation built into the muffler. He uses the tailpipe resonators to control the drone on his standard systems. I'm not sure how Carven does it - maybe that perforated ring does something.

Sound tone and volume are all functions of muffler dimensions, internal design, packing materials etc.....

It’s true. You want as much of the stock tubing as possible.

As far as sound. We have over 100 options. I can literally make any sound that you want.

If super aggressive without anything ‘poppy’ is the desired result, that’s super easy to make.

It’s worth a phone call. A lot of our videos don’t do justice. I can explain the differences.
