Thought I'd give the fellow Tundra owners a heads up.

My neighbor purchased a NEW Chevy Suburban 6 months ago from Carmax in the Kansas City area. 2 months ago the paint started to chip and flake so they took it to GM since it had a new car warranty.

The dealership took a look and came back with the news. The entire passenger side had been replaced, as well as the front and rear bumpers. While the dealer did a bit of digging they found out the rig was wrecked during delivery to a dealer. It went right to auction where Carmax purchased it, they fixed it and then sold it as new.

My neighbor called them out and after a couple weeks they ffinally admitted what had happened and agreed to buy it back. They also volunteered that they do that all the time. No shit.

The carfax is clean on it as well.

    Beware

I'm still floored at the entire thing and called BS. He was able to back up his story.

    Insane.

Wrecked before titled so i guess carfax would be clean. Shame GM didn't take it and do a factory rebuild or just scrap it. Guess they are insured in transit.

This only makes me more paranoid buying a vehicle. Should be against the law to do that. Too much money involved with these cars.

Did not know they sold "New" vehicles. Purchased a 2 yr old vehicle once about 15-16 yrs ago, was a good experience.

Be skeptical of Carmax in all respects. We bought a new 2014 Mustang for several thousand dollars less than Carmax was offering two “low mileage” lease vehicles or something like that, not 10miles down IH45. No used car dealer is your friend

I have parts being painted for deleting my chrome and there is a new car with new car stickers even shipping plastic. It has roof damage that is being fixed and probably sold as new. Never know

That would not be too kosher here in CO for a dealer to do. Auto retail industry is tightly controlled here although you always have the few shady used car dealers that come and go.

Honestly the whole Carfax thing is becoming a joke to me. Had a relative dealing with hail damage to there car and the body shop was saying that they don’t report to Carfax so not to worry about that. Lucky I believe insurance companies also report to Carfax.

My son-n-law owns a paint and body shop and he receives new vehicles from local dealers for damages occurred during shipment. Car haulers can be brutal on new vehicles during transport.

Why do you think they have some of the nicest and most state of the art body shops? All of the car factories have mega body shops also. I think some of you may be surprised what goes on with a “new” vehicle.
I just fixed a new 19 Silverado with 4 miles on for the local dealer. Man I could tell some story’s that would make you cringe.

Carmax is a sales business. They just take cars in and sell them. They may or may not know history

Both, due diligence. Research the car or truck your going to be buying. My salesman is use to me now, we put new trucks on the lift before I buy. I look for odd scratches or gouging the frame, bolts that are abnormally scared up and of course paint tape lines.

Is CarMax a Chevy dealer? No. They don't have access to new cars. If it was auctioned after accident then title transferred before CarMax sold it. Therefore it is not a new car. I'd talk to your local white collar crime detectives.

And yes Carfax is worthless. I've had repairs done at major body shops that never showed on two older vehicles I have owned.

My guess is it was an MSO only. Titles don't get issued until the MSO gets submitted to the state for title issue to the new owner.

Carmax vehicles are over priced. I would never buy one there. Even when they know they are they will not negotiated. I have told them so twice and they were firm.

My sister found a blacked out civic 2 years ago for my nephew who was going to college. The Civic was $2,500 more than Civics around here and it was at a Carmax. I went and looked at it and told her to run!!! I could tell the front windshield and door glass was not original and had been replaced. The car had been hit and repaired and I could tell. I tried telling her and she bought it anyway. They have had several problems with it since then. They later took it to a body shop and it had the whole front end replaced. Bought at a Cincinnati Carmax.

I have looked several times for vehicles and they are ridiculously high. I was trying to find a Tundra through them last year and they will not budge a penny and was not even close to the used market. We have no idea how they sell as many cars as they do. I think they mean well and a good business but they are buying cheap cars at auction...... There is a reason some cars are cheaper than others.

Saw a nice new Mustang on the front top position of a car hauler. Hood was wrapped over the roof. Fun stuff.

You said that CarMax of Kansas City sold your neighbor a new Chevy Suburban? That sounds really strange to me. CarMax does not have any Chevy new car dealerships. In fact, they only have two new car dealerships and both are Toyota dealerships. How I know this, is because my cousin works for CarMax.

So, if they sold your neighbor any vehicle outside of a Toyota as new, your neighbor should be in for a huge payout for fraud!!! New cars can only be sold by authorized new car dealerships. No used car dealership can sell a new car!!

Tell your neighbor to get himself a damn good attorney, because if his story is true, then he is about to get paid:spending:

Carmax told me they don't sell cars that have had bodywork or paint work.

This isn’t uncommon. In fact there’s body shops near the docks for new cars that are damaged during shipping.

    Most people never know.

Just think about how many new cars are moved about the world on a daily basis. If even .5% we’re damaged they definitely aren’t going to take a bath on it.

Then move on to human Error and vandalism at the dealerships. There’s a solid percentage of those cars that are damaged as well. Those are also repaired and sold as “New”.
