I've had this thing now for a few weeks and I'm impressed how easy it was to install and how reliable the connection is.

    1. It's never not connected.
    2. Connects in between 30 and 40 seconds.
    3. Call quality, music quality, IMHO in as good as wired.
    4. Visual maps and Apple CarPlay is as if wired.
    5. Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max

Got this too on my 18. Works pretty good with my kenwood. It does crash every now and then but works pretty good most of the time.

My wired connection on my '21 has been crashing too. The summer took a toll on my cellphone holder, so I think I will look into this item. After reading the ad, it is for CarPlay. I use Android Auto, so I will have to look further.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Just got one myself, the 3.0 and it is connecting on average less than 20 seconds, ridiculously happy with this add on!

My first attempt is just velcro just below the USB plug and using a 6 inch USB C cable so there is no excess. My Pedal Commander though is coming shortly so i'm thinking I may rearrange to put them both maybe on the inside under the dash together side by side to make it look nice and neat but not sure just yet what my final set up will be. It's very light so the velcro easily keeps it in place and out of the way.

Here it is with the new 6 inch USB C cord so no mess

Hey @fdwlaw, Thought I'd check in to see if you were still hot on CarlinKit. The last time I went down the wireless Car Play rabbit hole I concluded they all had quirks, but this one was not on my radar then.

I have also been down this rabbit hole and am not sure it's worth it based on reported quirks. I really want it to be worth it lol. @fdwlaw any updates?

@zasdds After I posted that I went and read the reviews on Amazon, where 54% of them were 3 stars or less. The one that stuck out to me was "This is the 3rd vendor I have tried and they all react exactly the same. Are they all the same product? I think so. It has been a big waste of time!"

I don’t get the appeal of CarPlay. What is so special about it? What can I do with it that I can’t do without it?

To each his own but I like the integration with my music and podcast apps, plus the ability to text by voice. The integration between Apple's maps and calendar apps is also useful, i.e. when an appointment reminder pops up the address in the appointment body becomes the destination on the display, and so you just sort of click "go" and you're off. That's a very small usability feature that I personally find useful.

I would also say the overall user interface is familiar and pleasing. It makes me nuts that Toyota has a moving map on the main landing screen, which is useless as it is fully underneath the 3-4 widgets that overlay it. That map catches my eye and makes me crazy. Really, Toyota's landing page is a total user interface fail.

That’s cool. I guess im just older and don’t use the technology to it’s fullest potential. Maybe one of these days I’ll take some time and learn how to use it.

This makes it WIRELESS, so you don't have to plug your phone into anything.

And I have had mine for about 18 months with very few quirks. I mainly use it for Waze, but occasionally use it for iHeartRadio and other streaming services. The issues I have, I have had with wired CarPlay connections as well. The ONLY quirk that kind of bugs me is that it takes 30 seconds or so to connect when you crank the truck up.

Yeah, people's experiences seem to be somewhat varied. Do you have the Carlinkit product?

Check out this thread - there is a wireless Android Auto option available now called AAWireless (shipping is delayed), and Motorola is releasing one at the end of January.

Question for those of you that have this. I understand that it takes 30 seconds or so to connect. That isn't really a problem for me.

How long does it take to disconnect? I frequently make work-calls from the truck, and sometimes, I finish my drive before I finish my call. With wired CarPlay, my call transfers to the phone immediately when I shut the ignition, and the people on the other end of the call don't even notice.

How does this work with this device?

It does take about 30 seconds to connect, but the handoff for calls is pretty seamless. When shutting down the truck, I haven't checked it. I manually switch to the handset before turning the truck off. It may be as seamless. I just don't know.

I have both versions. The 3.0 is in a Highlander and has been working great for a few weeks. I have the older version in the truck and it has been solid as well.

Affirm. I have created a calendar event to remind me later this month for the Motorola adapter. I cannot wait.

Anyone have an issue with volume control? Not entirely sure, but it seemed like when I reconnected for a 2nd time to the truck with out turning it off, I lost volume and most other controls. That is literally my only complaint.

Has anyone tried plugging it into the cigarette lighter(using a usb adapter of course) in the middle console? Im thinking that would be a good out of the way spot.

You need to connect the wireless carplay/android auto adapter to the main USB port (as seen in the pictures above) in order for it to work.

I'm thinking of just running a hidden USB cable and terminating it inside the center console. Put the phone in there and call it a day

One guy on YouTube pulled the center console up and carved a tiny notch for the cord to fit through and not be pinched. Velcro mounted under the console then snapped it back in place
