Has anyone installed a canopy and paid attention to where they run the wires for the third brake light as well as interior lights

Getting a canopy Monday and dont want scotch locks or a hack job done.

Will wire myself if need be but could use any helpful advice.

Did you do your own wiring. I bought a used topper and need to wire up the third brake light and dome light, but can find no information online. Ford and Dodge both provide a brake wire in their harness under the bed of the truck. Would have thought Toyota would have something similar but have found zero information.

No I let them talk me into letting them do it and Im very dissapointed.
They used scotch locks and hacked into my brake light on left side and tottaly jacked it up.
I ended up doing the repair myself.
Basically remove the left rear light assembly and tie into the brake light for a third brske lamp. For the interior they ran a fused wire from the battery back along the frame rail.

Leer does sell an interface harness 138359 that you should be able to put in before your 7 way towing plug

QSX15, Thanks for the reply, I'll look into the Leer harness otherwise I guess I'll hack into brake light. I'm concerned that without a relay that the 3rd brake light will blink when the left blinker is turned on I can't believe with all the mods and different threads on the site there is so little info on this here.

    Right....
Stock trucks and canopies just aren’t all the rage these days.

Nice! Do you use your trailer for camping? I've been looking at cargo trailer conversions because I would like to drag my kayak along with me on long trips and a "toy hauler" conversion seems like an affordable way to go.

You can easily tie in behind the taillight without any issues. The brake and turn signal are on separate wires, so there's no need for a relay. I also use the factory ground wire in the harness. Solder, tape and loom and you should be fine.

    What duece292said on the wiring.

I actually bought the trailer for camping as well as other chores. I have a second window kitty corner on the other side. Because I will use it for other chores we will use cots and portable tables as a rough camp. Its 7x12 so the cots will fit sideways aluminum frame barn doors and both axles are 3500 lb braking. Will use it for camping the first time in 2 weeks. Only other thing is to wire in a generator plug and some wall outlets so I can run a generator for charging cell phones and such. I put a row of etrack about 50” high down both walls so I can build an upper shelf to haul even more stuff above a quad, as well as etrack down both walls 8” high.

I am thinking of doing something along the same line. A place to sleep and keep the fishing and camping gear secure while traveling cross country. I've thought about solar panels on the roof and a Goal Zero battery pack in place of a generator, but then you don't want to park in the shade! The one thing I don't like about my Crewmax is two of us can't sleep in the topper without the tailgate down. If it is just me I barely fit laying diagonally across the bed. Have fun camping. I'm interested to hear how it goes camping out of the trailer.
