I was a bit disappointed that they no longer do valet keys. Sometimes in the summer I leave my dogs in the vehicle with the AC running and lock the doors and use the valet to open the doors after. If I have a blank key cut to fit will it work just to open the door lock? Also the dealership never gave me that little piece of metal with the number to make a key on it, does that really matter? I'm assuming more people lose that than don't.

Yes, I do this all the time in the winter. I start it up then use the key to lock it, I'm too cheap to get a remote start! Leaving dogs in your truck and you lock it? When I leave my rottie in my truck, never had to lock it, even with the windows open!

Cool thanks, were you able to get a key cut at a typical hardware store? Haha good point, I have a lab mix and a hound, I'm sure they'd scare off any would be thieves but just feel safer with the truck locked.

Yes it will work. My old man always told to have a spare key cut... it doesn’t have to start the car, just get you in.

Yes any store should be able to cut your key.

Great timing for this thread with winter upon this Tundra-owning brother.

    So can I?
    1. Leave my Tundra running
    2. Parking brake engaged of course
    3. Keep the FOB separate from the key which is in the ignition
    4. Step out, shut the door and lock with the FOB with the engine running
    5. Re-enter the Tundra by unlocking with the FOB and withOUT setting off the panic alarm?

Thanks, brothers. Have a great weekend!

I had a non fob key cut for the door. When I go kayaking, I leave the ignition key locked in the safe in the truck and bring only the door key with me in case I get wet.

The truck won’t lock with the fob if it is running. If you use a regular metal key, you can lock the doors from the driver side, as well as unlock the doors and get in without setting anything off.

Since I locked myself out of my truck once, I had this made. Unlocks the door, but won't start the engine. I keep it in my wallet20191122_074856.jpg

Thanks for the clarification, biebs96! I have a spare key like RacingJohnDeere55 that I will break out for the winter then. Thanks to both!
