Some lift, skid plate, Decked box, remote start, electric tailgate lock, CB...trying to build the ultimate farm truck
Took my truck out yesterday to an ORV playground and pushed it beyond its capabilities for the first time. Twice when trying to overcome a slick muddy incline I lost traction and started sliding backwards -- and the engine cut out. No warning lights but I know this is related to some kind of built in safety software related to crash detection. The engine restarted fine after cycling the key. Anyone know of a way to temporarily shut this "feature" off? I don't even know what Toyota calls it to be able to search for it in a forum

    TIA

Its called TSS (Toyota safety sense) which is all the features, but I think what you’re referring to is PCS (pre-collision system) which if I’ve read correctly you have a 16 so you don’t have TSS. 18MY and up have that. We’re you in 4lo when the truck died? This happened to me in my 15 recently. I was in 4lo and started rolling backwards and the truck died, but this is because it stalled from the low gearing in drive and rolling the opposite way if that makes sense.

While truck is running in park push and hold the traction control button for 3-5 seconds, you’ll hear a beep and a light or two will come on on the dash. Do the press and hold again for 3-5 seconds and all nannies that can be turned off will be off. This includes throttle control, traction control, and stability control. Push the tow/haul button and you’ll be in ‘Beast” mode. Fun and smiles will ensue, just be careful.

My friend's Nissan XTerra used to do this too. Something to do with rolling or sliding backwards while in drive.
