Not sure how many hikers/backpackers we have on here, but just picked this Marmot tent up.I had a cheaper one that worked ok, but was hard to pack out and bulky. I’m looking forward to getting out and trying this out. We are hoping to plan a trip north to possibly Colorado if all goes as planned. Backcountry always has great deals. I’m no expert hiker, but slowly but surely adding to my gear and places to venture. Any avid hikers on here?

nice. marmot makes solid stuff. we've had a snow peak for the past 6 or 7 years. it's been a solid piece of gear and has held up well.

where are you planning on camping up here?

Do some backpacking/hiking but just have a cheap tent at the moment. When i got started I refused to spend big $$ on a tent and have just used what i had. I have a cheap 2 person tent that weighs about 3-4lbs so it works for now. Planning a couple backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon and Zion for the fall.

    t-rexes don't camp. duh.

depends on when, where you're going and if you want a campground or backcountry. if you want a campground, better book now. stuff fills up stupid quick. reserve america and recreation.gov are your friends. if you're up high, days will be nice with potential afternoon thunderstorms. evenings will cool off quickly. i'd stay out of RMNP.

there's a great campground at molas pass. close access to durango and silverton if you want someone else to cook for you one evening. ouray is close too. telluride will be a couple of hours. there is a campground in telluride, right in town, that's nice. alta lakes is nice, tucked away and quiet. if you go to telluride, recommend the hike up to blue lake. just take your time and be mindful of the altitude.

good stuff on rabbit ears near steamboat as well. basic accommodations around dillon reservoir but puts you close to breckenridge and keystone. if you head north through silverthorne, towards steamboat, there are spots along green mountain reservoir and a few other areas.

north sand dunes are way up north but look like a fun place to play. hoping to cruise up there myself.

I went cheap as well early on. Not that this one is expensive but it’s a great brand and fit my needs. It was the same with my pack, started with North face then upgraded to Osprey(worth every penny).

Are you sure t-Rexes don’t camp? Lol

Thanks! I’ll look these places up. Durango and ouray were options I was looking at already.

Our neighbors mentioned Carson National Forest in New Mexico is nice as well. Pics do seem to make it look that way so it could be an option.

Nice, I have a marmot limelight 3p that I've used for everything from week long back backing to overnight hunting trips. Had it for years and had held up really well in all weather conditions.

I haven't decided on what tent i want - too many options. I just bought a Klymit Static V sleeping pad and wasn't impressed. I am a side sleeper and felt like i was always hitting the ground.

I have a Big Agnes 2 person tent for backpacking trips. Light weight and packs small. I'll join you guys if you plan an outing.

Yea great tent, luckily we only saw a little bit of rain but it held up great in some high winds.

I’ve had a few nights under the stars too.

Tent: North Face (about 10 years old)

Sleeping bag: Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardware, NF, and a couple bivy bags not requiring a sleeping bag.

Stove(s): MSR whisperlite, dragonfly, and MSR pocket rocket

Rest of my gear: all sorts of shit

I have more camping, backpacking, and climbing gear than I should. It’s been quite some time since I threw my Arcteryx pack on but all of the other gear is transferrable

Adding to the gear talk, I picked up some Scarpas for hiking when I was in Big Sky. They are very comfortable. I always had Keen before but I may be hooked on Scarpa now.
