Hey all, long time listener, first time caller.

Pulled trigger on a 2020 1794 today. When I took it on the test drive it had 6 miles on it.. only 6! We went on the highway and had to give the engine some juice to avoid a not so nice driver on the merge. How much is it typical to baby the engines in their infancy? Will getting up to that 4-5k rpm range on a merge matter? I know the break in rule of thumb is some kind of general restriction for 500 miles. Just want to know what to look out for if I have cause any problems on my truck... that has 6 miles. ha! Thanks.

You’ll be fine. Just take it easy the first few hundred miles. Occasional hard acceleration due to traffic conditions won’t hurt anything.
    Congrats on the new truck.

Nothing to do with that really.

You asked to be called Crazy plain and simple.

These trucks are not china dolls so easily broken though so I would avoid driving for hours at high RPMs but normal pattern driving to avoid the insane should be just fine.

I imagine the owners manual advises exactly how the suggest you drive during the break in period too.

New owner's worry about hurting their baby, but in fact, most never keep a vehicle long enough to see reduction in service life. If you plan keep the truck 30 years, or sell/trade a maximum-value clean used truck, then probably best to follow their recommendation to "take it easy" for the first few hundred miles. If there was real risk of owner-inflicted damage, not including running with no/low/dirty engine oil, then Toyota wouldn't offer an extended drive train warranty.

Ideally, on any high-performance engine, good practice is to avoid sporty driving until engine oil temperature is stabilized at normal operating temperature. Since Tundra doesn't have an oil temp gage, you can use coolant temp, but run it a few minutes more before romping on it (oil temp typically lags coolant temp).

I had a brand new, less than 100 miles 4runner, and had to pass a frac string. About 20 seconds at wide open throttle starting from 65 mph. lol. it was fine.

welcome from the Bay Area, CA.

from my homeboy Manual. he knows a lot about the Tundra. of course there are other methods especially from those that build and tune motors but imo you can never go wrong starting off with following Manual's guidance.

    pg 186 4-1.
