    Hello Gang,

Odd question. Been looking at properties outside major cities in Florida. I dont mind 50-75 miles out of Tampa, the panhandle, etc. None appear to have fences. I'm originally from upstate NY. Fences there are hit and miss.
If you have a dog, which most of us appear to, how do you cope with letting Fido outside for some fresh air? Are fences illegal in Florida? Socially taboo? I know electronic fences exist but... Kinda want upscale house accessories like large walk in showers, granite, maybe a pool, etc, etc. Any Florida residents or transplants advice is most appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'm currently visiting my mom in Parrish Florida and I see plenty of fences. When I lived near Orlando I had a privacy fence built. I do know some neighborhoods didn't allow it bit I wouldn't call it taboo.

Are you looking to be in a neighborhood or buy some property? I can't see you having a problem finding a place with a fence.

Precisely. He doesn't have wanderlust per se, and is let out to go the bathroom, swim, help with yard work, and check his perimeter for whatever. He is free. True freedom means he is on his own for food, shelter, recreation, etc. Aussie breeds don't crave "freedom". They crave a job and being close to their owners. He isn't left alone long enough outside to get into mischief. I just need a place to let him out, grab some coffee, and wait for him to come to the slider to be let in.

Thats reassuring Erik, I'll look some more. I was using zillow and told the wife, I'm not seeing any soft perimeters out back and was wondering if Florida was one one those no fence mentalities. Hmm. Well I guess that will be a question for the city before a purchase. Thank you for the reply.

When you have a pool, it must be enclosed by a fence or screening

Thanks Sean. That's the rule here too. Maybe I should just look for houses with pools lol

I’m in Naples fl. Fences are fine to put in here depending on the community. I live in a development and they allow fences to be put in.

Problem with the pool fence law down here is that the pool fence needs to be so close to the pool so a yard fence doesn’t cut it. Gotta a lot of friends that basically have 2 fences on the same property.

These laws I’ll never understand because if you go to many of the mega million dollar homes I never see a pool fence.

I'm in Orlando. No fences allowed in my subdivision, but walls are. Mines block and stucco and goes around all 3/4 acre. Many a tree have tried to crumble it through the years in the storms. So far so good, not even stucco flaked off.

I'd bet they have a child safety fence built with the pool, and the fence is up in the attic, and the holes on the deck are plugged and can be setup at anytime by pulling the plugs. And that suffices the law requirement here in Fl.

I am in Florida, about an hour south of Tampa, and while we don't typically have fences in our neighborhood, fences are allowed for those who want it. I would say about 20% of the houses here have fences. If you go further east and get bigger property (1 acre or bigger) you will almost always have a fence around the property and you can do whatever you want on the property, such as having a smaller yard fence to keep the dog in.

From Philly, Been In Ocala for 35 years fences are frowned upon especially in HOA's...Never do it again.....In order to enjoy a fence, one must move to the seedier section of town....
