Probabaly wont even need it done. Just get a cut off wheel cut it off your self then paint it. You don’t have to weld the plates on ive seen quite a few leave the hole open

Need mine done, also. I'd be afraid to leave the hole open or unpainted, tho...

Whys it called a cab mount chop now? Wasn’t it a body mount chop before? I feel like I missed a memo.

I wouldn't recommend leaving the plates off. Lots of crap, mud, water can get in there and potentially cause a corrosion issue imho.

Just paint the bare metal and there really shouldn’t be an issue....just an option if welding was the issue.

Someone on here just ran into issues without having plates installed after the chop. I forget who it was, but I think they were trading in for a newer Tundra and the dealer was giving them crap about frame damage due to what they saw. I agree with you in that it should be covered up and painted for the reasons you stated above.

Ya I read that to ...dealers don’t know to much tho about anything. Whether you cut and leave the holes or weld a plate over them it still has th same integrity. I agree to cover them but If he didn’t want to pay to have it done right away he can get away with it so he can run the bigger tires.

Mine local 4x4 shop chargers $350 but they did mine for $200. Shop around and see if they would match a lower price else where.

If you lived closer I’d just do it for you. I’ve done multiple. Maybe someone close to you off the group can lend a hand and save you some cash

I chopped mine myself after being quoted north of $300 by two different shops, and that's in the cheap Midwest!

I do agree that you should have plates welded on (AFTER you have determined you can clear the tires you want lol). Losing that material does affect the structural integrity of the cab (body ;)) mount, and as @Grey Wolf said, exposes it more to debris, etc.
