    4 inch lift
Hey guys new here in North Florida.

So, I am about to buy my first pickup a 2016 Tundra Platinum. Here is the issue went to go buy one yesterday from a dealer that was lifted. After seeing it in person my wife wasn't having it, not even a little. Also after driving it myself I had to agree. To each his own but I couldn't see sh*t. Now if I remember the truck at least up front has a six inch lift, plus something else making it 7.5 total on top of 35's. I don't know how much the rear is lifted but it is somewhat slanted.

After realizing that we were going to walk on the deal they are offering to put on a 4 inch kit and change the tires out to 33's. Keeping the 20 inch rims. They said returning it to stock would cost more and I don't mind the idea of a little lift.

Now a few questions, is this practical, can I trust the dealership to put on a lift kit? And will those tires on 20's work with a 4 inch lift?

Also they are saying I can sell the kit they remove for good money, I would consider it but selling a used kit which I have little knowledge of and could be incomplete for all I know doesn't sound like a good idea, maybe I can give the parts to someone who could use them.

Yeah I have a 6” lift and 35” tires on 20’s and can see fine. It took some getting used to, but I’m comfortable driving it.

If all you want is a total 3-4 inch lift, I would buy a stock truck and get it lifted yourself. Stealers will always charge you too much and the old lift you may have a hard time finding a buyer, IMO.

    Good luck.

Welcome. If you are not comfortable driving it and the wife doesn't like it. I'd pass. I have had a 6 inch lifted truck and I had to adjust to the new blind spots that come with it. I got about 3" when I lifted my Jeep and thought it was much better. But I am a lot older now, so crawling in and out may have played a roll in that.

If you are going to consider letting them change out the lift, find out what they are going to put on it and what's coming off. I was buying a Jeep for my son and the dealer was trying to push "deal" lifted one on me. I crawled around under it and it was one of the cheapest lifts. You could end up with junk going on and something unsellable coming off.

Sounds like you guys are right about looking for another one, I would have probably already gotten one if the dealer wasn't doing everything I asked. I am not paying a penny for the lift or tires or anything else that needs to be done to the car, and I have made this clear. At this point I will see what the brand of lift is that they want to put on and once I know I'll run it past you guys to make sure it checks out. I'll give them a day see what they come up with, they seem desperate if they are considering doing all this for free and it never hurts to dangle a dealer until they finally give in and let you walk away.

Otherwise there are a couple others in town I will go after.

Also, depending on what you want to do with the truck - off-road trails, strict pavement princess, haul heavy objects - the lift brand can be important. I have a Rough Country 6" spacer lift that is a bad idea for off-roading, so I am in the process of upgrading the suspension. Sure, the truck looks awesome, but I would be breaking parts on the trail once I leave the pavement. Also, my leaf springs are almost flat, thus not good to carry very heavy loads, and that will also be upgraded.

Read up some more around the forum, lots of information and people to help you out!

Welcome. 33” on a 4” lift would look like it skipped leg day.
Did they cut the frame for the 6”?

Haha, skipped leg day.. Yes from what I understand the frame was cut.

It's probably important that I mention my plans with the truck. It will be used as a daily commuter during the winter when I cant bicycle and for hauling a trailer, don't intend to offroad with it (I want her pretty), I have destroyed enough jeeps in my teens to get that out of my blood.

If the dealer is going to make it stock again before doing another shorter lift, they may need to replace cross members because it was cut.
You really are better off buying stock and doing a modest lift, this sounds like an expensive fix that you will pay for, doubt dealer will foot bill for that.

I doubt the dealer will want to foot the bill too, but thats what they have said, I made it clear there are other tundras out there I can buy stock the way I want. At this point its almost curiosity are they really going to foot the bill, and some ammunition for getting the price down on the other tundras, if they are willing to spend 2-3k fixing it, then I can probably use that as a target.

Welcome from San Diego. Skip the truck, find a stock one and build it the way you want when you are ready.

    @Tmsa

    Welcome from Tampa!

I went through a lot of research before buying my tundra (6 months worth).

First thing you have to know is......what is the new family member going to be used for? daily driver, parking lot princess, weekend offroad, heavy duty offroad, overlanding......

that is the first answer you need. before you can truly make decisions on the hardware, understand your use and needs.

it's hard to answer your questions without that info.

to take a stab at the general question of dealers and their promises.....avoid at all cost. buy the truck you want up front or buy a cheap lower model and build it out the way you want. you'll save yourself (and the salesmen) time and money

    hope this is helpful

That is probably the reason they are so eager to sell it.

I too agree with finding one that is stock. You never know what kind of hassle you may encounter later down the road if you're trying to get something covered under warranty. Though, if they are offering an incredible deal that is another story.

Lol, i should of finished reading the thread it seems.
    Congrats and welcome from Texas.
