Hi all, i had my bumper recall done and I am pissed off. I read that people have had issues with it and i wish i never had it done. The dealership sent my photos to Toyota and Toyota has decided to do a "one time good will adjustment" to correct this at a local body shop which would be "an all day event". Upon asking for a loaner vehicle, I was told "Toyota does not provide alternate transportation while this is being performed". I'm really pissed about all of this. I would love some feedback. Should I go straight to Toyota corporate with this? Anyone else have this issue? The cement bumper is a picture i took at the dealership of an '18 which shows how it should look.

My bumper came crooked from the factory also. Not as bad as yours. I just took it upon myself to loosen everything up and get it squared up. The bumper is kind of tweaked even when it’s all loosened up. I got one side about where I wanted it and then had to snug up the other side then put all my weight on it to get it to be pushed down enough, and then torqued everything up. I’m with An 1/8 to 1/16th of an inch to being perfect in my standards.

I am not sure what state you are in but there are 5 Regional Toyota Distributors, each one is owned bu a different Company. Texas and the surrounding states are owned by the Freidkin Companies. They each have a warrantee manager that dictates what and how a dealership should operate on those issues. If you can contact them (any dealership your state should know who that is) it would be a good place top start.

Wow yours is bad I just got another recall notice I probably didn't look at my bumper alignment close enough (will have to open when I get home).

I agree waiting all day and not getting a loaner car is not cool. Last time when i brought my '18 in for a Software recall they didnt offer a loaner either luckily my wife had off. I did get a loaner another time but i had to pay for insurance.
I have had some bad experiences with my dealership already as well. It used to be a bit of a no brainer '18 tundra over f150 for me, but now a month in I'm not as sure (as of now I'm still happy I got the Tundra but not as happy as I thought I would be at this point sorry to say). Keep in mind this is my 2nd Tundra...
    Good luck with it...

The OEM bumpers leave something to be desired. I'm going with aftermarket.

if it's just an adjustment, do it yourself. sounds like a lazy man's recall.

I think if it was that easy Toyota would have been able to do it right the first time. But I'm gonna try.

Hey I get it, spent a bunch of money on a truck and it should come right. I just fix my own shit, I don't and won't trust anyone else will do a better, more careful job.

That's another thing i said. If i spend this much money on a truck, make it right. It's crazy to me. Did they not put this new bumper on a truck and test this out? This is happening way too often for me to believe they actually tested this.

It actually was really easy as long as you’ve got the right size socket, breaker bar, torque wrench. I looked up the torque specs somewhere. Sorry I don’t have them in hand otherwise I would give them to you. I think I had it done in less than 30 minutes. It definitely shouldn’t take all day for those idiots at the dealer to get it done.

Mine looked about the same after my dealership did the recall, I returned it the next day and the dealership adjusted it. No reason for them to send it out to body shop. I got a loaner on both trips and I don't believe Toyota corp has anything to do with the loaner policies.

I had my 2016 Crewmax done yesterday with the same iffy results. I have no idea how that bumper design was ever approved, much less pass a safety test in the first place. Everything else on the truck seems great, but if you have the BSM and parking sensors you give up your bumper.
To be fair, I had cracked the passenger side corner and the wire harness was bad. Both the BSN and parking systems didn’t work. So I had ordered a new harness online and gave it to them when I came in, asking if they would replace it when doing the fix. That was all fine.
The waiting room was chic with tons of customers getting serviced—pun intended. I was thinking that a lot of money was flowing through the service department!
The job took about 3.5 hours.
When it was done, the service manager said “came out pretty good”.
It was parked at the back of the lot. So we couldn’t see it together. When I got to it, the bumper looked pretty straight. The fix included new top step pads and the large center piece (both were scarred—so that was a win).

They told me I needed 3 new parking sensors to the tune of 743$. LOL! Yeah, sure. I’ll get right on that.
The issue is the corners are out at least an inch or two from where they should be on the original bumper.
I didn’t have the time to argue in the cold and rain so left. I will tweak it myself.
I have yet to crawl under it to see what else they might have done—or not done. The “looks pretty good” just reminds me that if you want the job done right, do it yourself!
