Figured I'd pass this along for others to see since I couldn't find an answer from reading multiple threads.

Bought a 20 Tundra in September. In October I noticed the passenger side dash start to warp (see pictures) slightly.
Dealer took apart dash and noticed the factory incorrectly assembled the dash (see picture of service advisor's comments).

Dealer ended up putting in new dashboard which eliminated the problem.

If you see a bump in your dash, bring it to the dealer, it was probably assembled incorrectly and Toyota should fix this.

Interesting. I’ll have to go check mine. I had a 07 Tundra with a similar problem and it was called “sinking dash” back then. The passenger side dash was sunk in and uneven.

I’ve got the same. The tech at the dealer said he’d have to take the whole dash apart to fix it. I figured there was more of a chance of something else getting messed up so I didn’t get it fixed.

They give you 2 years of additional service because of the dash?

2 years additional service was for another issue. Dealer drove truck to bedliner installer and whoever was driving the truck was flooring it (saw "Fast Accelerations" on the Toyota Services app). Complained to service advisor and told them whoever picks up truck from bedliner installer that they shouldn't be flooring the truck. Sure enough, whoever picked up truck from bedliner installer and drove it back to dealer managed to get three more "Fast Accelerations". I freaked and they offered 2 years additional service (so 4 years total). Thought that was a fair compromise.

It's mostly plastics that simply pop out and pop back in when ready to re-install. I wouldn't be overly-concerned about them taking it apart. See video:

Damn, there's a little hump on the same area on my dash. My 5k service is coming up and I'll have the service guy take a look at it. Thanks for the heads up.

So, what exactly is the fix?? A defective dashboard or the way it’s installed? Also, someone mentioned it’s an easy fix by the dealer? This doesn’t seem like an “easy” fix to me. Something is definitely bound to go wrong during the disassembly/reassembly.

The problem is a warped dash that's installed incorrectly (possibly became warped from an incorrect installation, idk). The fix is to correctly install a dashboard that isn't warped.

"Easy" is relative. From what I understand, taking the dash off is just pulling clips and tabs off (not necessary "highly skilled" work) and then putting them back together. There's definitely a possibility for plastic cracking, tabs breaking, plastic scratching, etc. But, I wouldn't consider this a super difficult fix, especially for a mechanic who works on vehicles all day long.

At least for me, you are right. I've been lucky enough to own 5 since 2007 (I'm not rich, they don't lose their value so I keep trading up) and every single one has had the hump.

Mina had it too. It would also buzz/rattle over bumps so I had the dealer pull it to repair. The duct underneath was not assembled correctly (same as OP) causing the noise. Of course when I got it back the duct rattle was gone but I had a few scratches on the cowl above the gauge cluster and a new squeak from the shifter in exchange. o_O:mad: Back it went again. Seems good now but pulling the upper out to get at the duct is a lot more involved then the video shown above. I would say only have it addressed if you are getting some noise or other. The potential to create new problems is not worth it if only aesthetic issue.

Just noticed this on mine as well. Is it worth taking it in to get it fixed? Considering leaving it as I’m a little apprehensive of them pulling the dash apart on an otherwise perfect truck

I have the same hump and took it to the dealer twice and they refused to fix it. They had a tundra on their lot with the same hump and said it was normal.

It’s true it is normal, however, that doesn’t mean it’s installed or made correctly. It’s a manufacturer’s defect. Toyota will probably do nothing about it, especially nowadays as they will only care if NHTSA makes a stink about it. In other words, if it’s aesthetic they won’t touch it….if it can potentially kill you, they will jump on it in seconds.

I don’t trust my dealer with wiper blade replacements no way would I ask them to fix it. I’d just live with it. And I am since mine has it too

You will do more damage than you think. Good luck with it, but it’s not a quick and easy fix. I say just leave it alone and put up with it. Learn from it, and when you buy another car in the future, take your time and look over every fit and finish of a car before buying. This is the difference between Toyota and Lexus….Lexus engineers are super anal about fit and finish.

    Op,
Did the high school kids that work there floor it? what kind of app is detecting that?

Also surprised that Toyota allows and pays for this kind of cosmetic fix.
When it comes to cam tower, they don't want to spend a little more and fix both sides (if only one side is seeping/leaking) but they allow this!?
    btw, Nice dealer!
