Got around to fixing that today. Got the new part in Thursday from Camelback. A 10mm socket, a small flathead screwdriver, and a T30 Torx was all that was needed for this project.

You can see that the little chintzy plastic clip for one of the 2 rods had finally given up the ghost after 13 years. Not bad for an OEM handle and abuse!

New one all nice and neat and installed. function test completed. happily put back together and then proceeded to hit the local home improvement store for landscaping stuff for my yard.

I spent the 90 bucks for an OEM one through Camelback Toyota, instead of going the cheapy route through Rock Auto. With as much as I use my tailgate, and knowing how Toyota's dont like aftermarket stuff (and the fact that rock auto in this case couldnt guarantee which manufacturer or the specs on which one would be sent), I ponied up the money and called it money well spent.

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Icon leaf spring packs and got rid of the interior chrome
For another $95.00 you can add the pop and lock auto tailgate lock. Pretty damn easy to install

Just the rod clips broke. Was the outer pull broken also? That's what broke on mine. Haven't changed it yet. Don't use the bed as much as the 4x4.

I broke the handle before I realized the rod clip had busted. Joys of it being early in the morning and trying to load stuff up for a trail ride. No matter what I had to buy a new handle.

Nice job. Did mine a few years back with The Rock Auto replacement. Musta got lucky as its pretty solid and holding fine. Pretty easy swap out.
