About a month ago, my door latch started sticking on my driver side door. I would pull the door shut and slam the latch into the peg it is supposed to clamp around, because I did not realize the Latch had fallen.
Now I constantly have to push the latch up with my finger before closing the door. I have to close the door quite hard. The result of me not fixing the latch is that I broke the lower door handle connection inside. I’ve found one possible door replacement, but I thought I’d see what someone else would do. Replace the door latch and deal with the broken handle? Replace the door skin? I’m not sure what all options are available.

I couldn’t upload the video here. So I’ve added a YouTube link.

Latch sticking is normal, once the molded plastic around the J-shaped part of the latch disintegrates, unless you keep it lubed, it's only a matter of time. Cleaning then lubing will help.

Toyota used to sell the pull handle separate. It was low quality, and one member on here (maybe two?) had their replacements break. It may be NLA at this point, it's been a year or three. I'd source a new one from the junkyard.

Same thing happen with me. I found this YouTube video and it was a little Band-Aid lasted about 2 years (I still have it) and it worked till I finally found a color matched one at the junkyard in good condition. If you decide to do the fix, be careful cause glue gets everywhere. Looks like yours just might need the two screws

also don’t bother trying to fit a rear driver pull handle there it doesn’t line up or fit. if you do order the part or find it at a junkyard, It’s really easy to replace.

I replaced my striker on the driver side with a oem one, but I recently changed my passenger side with an Amazon version and it works for now because the same thing started to happen.

I picked up a used Tacoma door for my Tundra. $400. As of now I plan to reuse the hinges that are already attached to the truck (seems easier than getting behind the fender to remove the hinges).

Question: Do I have to remove the fender to access the other part of this wire harness? Can I pull this rubber plug (from the current door) out of the truck door frame with enough slack to disconnect the harness?

…. I just went back and looked again, and my guess is I have to remove - screw in the floor trim (pictured) to remove the brown plastic cover to reach the harness.

    Can someone confirm this?

Tacoma door on a Tundra? The other end of the harness is accessible if you remove the kick panel.

I’m more interested in how you’re gonna fit a Tacoma door on a tundra.

Yeah, that’s what the guy at the parts shop told me. He said they are compatible. Either he meant Tundra or he misspoke. Whatever he gave me is the right size.

I got the door on. It works great.
    But…
    1. I had to cut 2 wires coming out of the old door that were not linked to the harness. I found out these were to the aftermarket door lock/car starter. I’ll need to figure out how these were attached inside the door. I currently cannot unlock the drivers side door from the outside.

    2. The wire harness for the drivers side mirror is not compatible with the new door’s harness. And they have different amounts of wires (5 originally, 7 on the new door). I don’t really mind, but is there an adapter of some sort?

Can you take the guts of your original door and put them into the new door. Alternatively you might be able to re-pin one end or another so connectors match up.

Bfunke, As it relates to the wire harness, I’m not that skilled. I will be removing the lock barrel from the old door to put in the new. I’ll know when I have time to do that.
