Hi, antenna broke off at car wash. Retained piece of bolt on antenna assembly. Tried to get it out with left handed drill bit, but ended up filing down the threads in the assembly.

I see that a new assembly can be purchased for $180 and some change, but first wanted to find out if anyone knows if just the part that the antenna screws into can be replaced or if in fact, the entire assembly would need to be changed out.

    Alot of them
Sparks has it for $135 but it looks like it is one piece. Look on YouTube to see if you can find the removal. I have heard that it is a royal pain.

It's a one-piece assembly - coax, mount, and plug. A friend replaced his and said it was a real pain to do. Good luck.

Isn't the car-wash somewhat responsible? I would think they should be letting their insurance take care of this.
I would bet if you let Toyota take care of this, what 5, 6 hundred bucks? Good Luck, let us know how this comes out!

If you have replace the whole thing including coax I would just splice the coax cable. Not hard to do.

My local car wash has a sign warning you that antennae and other aftermarket parts that project from the car can be damaged during the wash, and they accept no liability. My guess is the OP drove past the sign and just didn’t think about it.

Just get a stubby antenna. They look better anyway.

I don't use automatic car washes. Changed the oil on my daughters RX350 the other day and she washed it. I clay barred and ceramic coated the hood and fenders. I showed her what automatic car washes do to black paint.

That was the first job I had to do on mine when I bought it. It was easy but this is the chap that stripped and rebuilt his old Ford Explorer Sport Trac transmission, as with any job it helps if you have the right tools for that job. I didn't have to mess around with the coax cable or antenna and I hope I never have to. The little plastic replacement part was obtained as an aftermarket part from a well known auto factor store, it was cheap and doesn't fit very well but it does the job.
However, I get the impression that the OP doesn't just have a broken wing mount, so I'm probably not much help.

Did you ever replace it? Did you do it yourself or have the dealer do it? My wife wanted to be nice took my truck through the car wash and it snapped.

I was able to get the broken piece out. I tried using a screw extractor, but I could never get a good bite.

I pulled out my corded drill though and then was able to get enough metal cored out of the broken screw, and then was finally able to get the extractor to get a good bite.

    Good luck!!

Well, poo! Your posting again on here seems to have made my truck jealous and it has lost it's antenna bezel - for the second time, looks like they must have a 5 year life span in the Deep South.

I am back to kick myself in the ass and share knowledge. Last year I relented and went through the car wash, probably only the second or third time. The brushes ripped that stubby antenna off like a damn scab. I replaced it, but I’ll get out and remove it if I have to go through a wash again.

I did same. Screwed it even more by using extractor set. I barely use the radio so I’ll be ok without it.
