I've had his tune for almost a year and my truck has only seen 87. I don't have any knock or anything noticeable. I was told that running premium would net the most out of the tune but 87 wouldn't be harmful. If I wanted to switch to 93 it would take 3 tanks for the computer to learn and adapt or I could disconnect the battery for a given amount of time and not go through 3 tanks before learning.

There have been guys that have used both and claim they didn't notice much of a difference. But it is a tune designed for premium, so if you want to get 100% out of the tune you should stick with premium.

If you do the remote tune then you can change it back to stock any time you need to and put the tune back in right? Those who have this tune do you feel it is well worth the money and would do it again? I don’t really care about the mpg gain but want a performance gain. I have read where everyone says it is smoother but is it more responsive? With the tune do you have to run it in tow/haul mode to feel it or is it felt without being In tow mode? I really would like to get this but just want to make sure it’s worth the money!

Yes, if you do the remote you can go back and forth on your own. Whether it's worth it depends. $600 ain't cheap. If you are supercharged or running headers, I'd say no brainer since the gains should be more significant. I did it because my truck was feeling sluggish after going up to a 295/70/18 tire (I will be regearing next week). I'm stock performance wise except for exhaust. After the truck "learns" the tune, it is noticeable and more responsive. You do not have to run it in tow/haul. The tune by itself is not as torquey as being in tow/haul mode. Maybe somewhere in between. When I'm driving normally in town, 30-40 mph, stop and go is more enjoyable. The truck seems to get out of first very quick, then holds second and third longer than stock (and fourth depending on what speed I'm getting up to). My MPG's have stayed the same or maybe dropped a bit since I was using ethanol free fuel before the tune (better for MPGs). One thing I was a little disappointed about was the truck still shifts out of first around 5400 when I step on it off the line. Some guys shift above 6000 out of all gears apparently. According to DAP, my truck is likely seeing some slight wheel spin, causing it to shift early.

Thanks for the info!! I was debating on driving for 14 hours to get the tune in person but I like the idea of being able to take it out if I have to go back to the dealership. This is why I love this site anything you can imagine doing to your tundra you can get answers before pulling the trigger! Everyone is is great about helping with what they know or have learned by doing it!

14 hours is a long hike! The remote tune is very easy to install and uninstall, as long as the tuner you get is working properly. Mine had some glitches, and it was a pain to get it sorted out. But all is good now.

Why do they say drive 50 miles after you uninstall the tune? I am going to go with a remote tune too.

It takes 50 miles for the ecu to re-learn all the new parameters. Util you drive 50 miles, the ecu will be in a "not-ready" state.

I once took my commuter car in for a smog, and had replaced the battery a day before. When the smog tech plugged the computer into the obdII port it was in "not-ready" state and couldn't be smog'd. I told him i just replaced the battery and he said to go drive it 50 miles and come back.....i did and it was good to go.

Got tuned last Monday and previous reviews by others are consistent...Responsive, smoother transitions. I couldn't really test out the tune due to the rainy conditions that evening. At this point I really like the tune and will do some further testing this weekend on a road trip to the central coast.

I did the same thing with my wife’s car except I removed the battery to remove the cold air intake so that I could pass smog. He told me the same thing go drive around for 50 miles and come back. All wasgood after.

I’m set to be daptized this Saturday and cannot wait. Originally started with the Bullydog tune then switched over to the TRD reflash. BD was terrible and TRD is tolerable. I’m hoping third times the charm with this DAP tune. Truck is Supercharged btw

Anyone towing with the tune? I only went up to 305/65/18 and the difference was noticeable. Im also interested in lt headers, should i wait for the headers before i get tuned? Or is there an adjustment to the tune for upgrades?

No need to wait for other mods before you get tuned unless you are going to supercharge. I've had the tune for several months and just installed American Racing headers a couple weeks ago. My truck is currently on the lift getting a custom catback with x-pipe and 3" tubing built.

THats awsome! Exactly what i want. So the tune dosent change unless you’re supercharged? And if i can only do one for now would you say tune or LTH?

Updated Review, I have put over 1,500 miles on my DAP tune and really enjoying the benefits.
Shift points are very smooth especially on lower end. Having torq management taken off is a big plus, I have power right now. Low end HP is very noticable. My mpg continues to go up. I filled up today and hand calculated at 17.38 mpg, computer said 17.3 and still climbing ( this is driving 60 mph). Using 91 octane, best we can get in Jackson, WY. I am running stock tires at the moment, that will change this Fall. Those of you who are on the fence don't be. Algorithm Shrek created for this tune is the real deal.

I guess they are waiting on Toyota to release ECU data for 2018 Tundra. Then Shrek can build a tune from there.

this. I've emailed both DAP and Magnuson (wanting to go S/C) about once a month...and both companies have said the same story. Toyota has yet to release the ECU data required to do the tune for the 2018. In Magnuson's case, they leverage BD for the tune. BD relies on SCT to provide the tune. SCT... told me the (you guessed it) Toyota hasn't released the ECU data.

    Flux capacitor!
I spoke with Dap a few weeks ago about doing a SC and Dap tun on my 17 FFV. They said they will not do a SC or tune for the FFV. They actually suggested the Bully Dog if I did a SC on my Tundra. I guess they will do a FFV tune but not the SC? I wish Toyota never made the FFV!

HPTuners supports our trucks now. Go to any dyno shop that tunes with HPTuners and they will be able to tune your truck.

I made a thread about it. Click here.

On the flip side, those same shops have no experience tuning our trucks since the support just came out. Gonna be a couple ginnie pigs out there, but overall good to see more tuning options for our trucks.

I don't disagree, but it's all the same concept: A VE table, a PE table, timing table and fuel control. I spoke with HPT and they confirmed that the format would be similar, if not identical, to tuning an LS engine. The biggest variable would be tuning the VVT-i. LS guys get rid of it, because it's junk, but ours actually functions to aid in engine performance. Anyway, it's ALWAYS better to dyno tuning a forced induction vehicle on a dyno that can control load resistance. While there will be a learning curve, I foresee it to be very very small.
