Just ordered my tune. I’ve never had a car I haven’t tuned, most I’ve done myself. Factory settings are very safeguarded. For me, removing torque management alone would be worth it if it’s anything like how bad it was on my old gto. Removing torque management on that one was night and day better.

Tuning isn’t for everyone, just as modding isn’t. But everything I’ve read says this is a positive.

My unit just shipped so the process begins.

Everytime I see a tundra, I wanna let them know about the awesome dap tune available. Some people just aren't for it. But, it definitely kicks up the fun factor. I said to Shrek, when I can afford the s/c, that I'd ship it to him and make the drive to his shop.
I think it would be similar to going to play basketball with Michael Jordan and getting a pair of his autographed championship sneakers after.

So I when I had the bullydog tuner I removed any torque management and it was fun but then it got annoying especially from a dead stop the slightest pressure on the skinny pedal it would jump, annoyed my wife too and I removed it. Is that the same with the DAP or is it smoother more controlled or is it one of those things where people will have different opinions on? Do you really get better mileage? is the only advantage a more responsive gas pedal? does it search for gears especially going uphill where most vehicles would struggle?

I have had my DAP tune for about a month now, it starts moving quicker from a dead stop, but I would not call it a jump, I just dont have to mash the pedal to get rolling. I have not seen any increased fuel mileage and I log every single fill up in an app. I will say the past 3 weeks I have been warming up my truck in the mornings and have had unusual weather that has affected my 'normal driving habits and conditions. My truck does not hunt for gears any more and maintains speed a lot better when going up hills.

    None, yet....
I’m interested in hearing your feedback, specifically since I assume you used HPT or EFi Live to remove the torque management on your goat?

I am also curious to know your background on tuning and how this whole process compares to a laptop based interface.

Lmk how you like it. I believe he will be in the Bay Area on February to do in person tunes.

that doesn't sound like torque management, but maybe it is on these trucks. My GTO it prevented timing from being pulled as traction

I messed around with efi live in the goat. But always had a buddy around to double check my work. with my 911 turbo I am doing logging and all myself but not the tuning. But I’ve also messed around with Hondata, motec, etc.

I keep you updated on how this goes.

Wish I had known he was coming up here. May make me put a blower on before he comes!

Where can I find details on his visit?

I have tuned every vehicle I have ever owned and would love to get a little more out of the tundras 5.7. All of the reviews seem to be positive so I guess I'm going to join the party. Couple if questions for those in the know:
Can it be removed and loaded at will?
    Can I tow with it?
Can a dealer see it if it has been removed?
    Thanks

I just emailed him. I will let you know as we talk. Maybe you should cancel your tune and wait for him to come here? His in person tunes are undetectable by the dealer.

With the remote tuner you can revert back to stock in 2 minutes and reinstall the DAP tune again and again
I have not towed yet since the tune, but many people tow with the tune in
With the remote tune the dealer could see it if they go looking into the files. If tuned in person by Shrek the tune is not detectable. Shrek recommends removing the remote tune and driving 50 miles before taking the truck in for service. If unable to drive before going in to the dealer and they ask if you about some of their diagnostic results - say you had the battery terminal off while you were installing some lights or had a dead battery recently.

Can't believe my tires break loose when it shifts into 2nd gear now. I've even got 35s. I've only had the tune 2 days now, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Are you guys running 91/93 octane? Is it worth the premium on price for gas? I’m running 87 now. Does 91/93 octane get better mpg?

i know on my fords, both diesel and gas, there were specific tow files. id be nervous towing anything with it tuned.
so what is the difference between in person and with the hand held? why can it be seen if you do it yourself but not if he does it?

Doesn’t seem to be worth it, it’s just my opinion to those that will get butthurt, I had the bullydog and sounds the same except for little details. For power and without going in debt with the supercharger id rather get LOng tube headers paired with a full race exhaust from dirty deeds industries!

Yeah, headers are definitely the way to go. Those have been on my list for quite some time. But getting rid of the torque management alone is the biggest reason I got the Dap Tune. Headers with torque management is like getting all dressed up with no place to go!

this is the exact opposite of what i have found on past vehicles: cars, trucks, gas or diesel. yes exhaust is good but the tune brings everything together. plus im not sure i want the sound of a full race exhaust and long tubes on my DD. id love to drive a tundra that has the DAP tune to see how it feels compared to mine

Even straight pipes on the tundra aren't that loud. Strange that these trucks are so quiet.

I think the tune makes it drive better than stock but LT headers with full race exhaust for actual power and torque gains which Keith Carty has dyno proven. A supercharger is too expensive, I would put $6000+ of what it costs to buy the SC and install to pay off the truck sooner. Comparing power gains from dyno sheets you get more from LTheaders/full race exhaust than the BD or DAP tunes, I just can’t seem to fork out $600 for DAP with remote when the power gains are minute and I can get more from an exhaust and headers setup. I have straight pipes from dirty deeds and it’s not loud until I mash the skinny pedal, I love doing it in my neighborhood when motorcyclists living nearby love to rev their puny engines, they look at me and I’m ready for a fight and they stop revving haha, works every time.

Yea, these Tundras definitely are not a very loud truck. My straight pipes are barely louder than my buddy's stock silverado until I mash it. Another buddy has a silverado with straights. I can hear him coming a mile away even when he's just cruising along.

I started my truck with straight pipes at walmart the other day as a little kid was walking by. i think he pooped himself. they're not that loud under normal driving, but they do have a nice bark on start up. I purchased the remote DAP the other day. Should have it installed next week. Yea, the peak gains on the dyno sheets didn't seem all that much, but I thought I saw someone post a dyno showing some pretty nice gains in low-mid rpm range. I'd like to get headers one day, but that's at the bottom of the list for now.

im not looking for peak power gains, lets be real its a 6k lb truck. if im looking for a thrill ill hop in my 700hp cobra and have some fun. im more interested in under the curve power, low and mid range tq, and just an overall better driving experience. ill be honest, a full exhaust is never going to happen for me. a tune is easy and easily reversible.
so far the reviews have been positive so its got me thinking. Dallas isnt too far from me plus thats where my cobra tuner lives so i may make the trip and get a little first hand info.

The next step for me is headers. I've got Keith's dual cat back right now and have 2 cats with less than 5k miles on them to put in new mid pipes. I think the labor installing them has me procrastinating. I usually do everything myself, but I may have a shop do it for me. I don't know.

Shrek sold me on the american racing headers. He gave me the tune to pair with the new merchandise. It's loud. Getting up to speed and dropping the hammer really pounds the pavement and the decibles are substantially louder. I have the TRD dual exhaust.. I love it. So much that I drive extra miles when I don't need to but that I enjoy it so much.

Nice! I didn't realize there was another option besides DT and JBA for the Tundra.
