So, decided to trade a good thing for a good thing. Trading 17 for 19 and leaving for a road trip. Will be trading mine and with in 300 miles on truck pulling my 3500lbs camper for two weeks for about 3 to 4k. Am I going to risk it with so little break in. Need info tonight!!!

Hook up and go. There is no Mama Toyota prescribed break in procedure. Have fun.

I bought my 2017 tundra and had only 350 miles on it before loading up my stepdaughters car and towing it from AZ to NE for college, then had to bring the flatbed back to AZ. About a 3K mile trip towing maybe 5500 pounds out there and about 2000 pounds back. I'm at 45K miles now and no issues or concerns. Go for it!

Your owners manual does have a break in period.

Been a long while, but I thought it was 500 miles no towing, and after that was something else.

What your looking for here is gear break in, and not smoking your gears.

My Duramax had one hell of a break in procedure, but I followed it to the letter.

My 2017 owner manual says "For the first 500 miles: Do not tow a trailer". :notsure:

A couple of midnight beer runs to a nearby city?

And this is the biggest reason. I have bought 4 new toyota trucks in my life and I change rear diff fluid at 500 miles just like when I am breaking in a set of gears in my crawlers.

Should mention that I would eat pinion gears in my crawlers till I got anal about breakin procedures. Now on 40s with little toy v6 diffs and rarely have gear issues.

The bullet points are interesting. Point 1 is bedding the pads, point 2 is breaking in the gears, and point 3 is breaking in the motor.

I bought my Tundra in Corpus Christi and drove it to the Houston area that day. 3.5 hours of mostly constant speed for an extended period. Oops.

These are very important in my opinion.

I was only 150 miles shy of the 500 mile mark before I was supposed to tow. I bought the truck about a week prior and that was all the miles I could rack up before the trip. I did take it easy while towing though...hopefully any issues would have already popped up by now.
