UPDATE: I had my truck tires balanced today at the dealership and the issue is resolved. Drives smooth at high speeds now.

    Hi,

I just bought a 2020 and pointed out the problem after test driving on highway and they assured me they would balance tires. My truck, because of the whole Covid thing, has been literally just sitting on their lot for almost 4 months, so I think the tires probably have a flat spots or it just needs an alignment and balance. I will say I have driven it about 150 miles since buying it a couple days ago and when I took it on highway the wobble was almost non existent!

I will still have them look at it tomorrow since I am taking it in fro the bed liner and a state inspection anyway , but my point it it seems like it fixes itself with some driving, and if not the dealership will stand up to their product.

No vibrations on any new truck i have bought including Fords. I have had several with off center steering wheels. Tundra is off a smidgen. Might be a 1/4 turn of tie rod. Mist likely a wheel balancing iasue or a previous test driver hit a curb.

I think this is 100 percent a problem caused by the fact that the trucks have been sitting for months without very little movement...

    Exactly this.

i got 2016 limited and has been sitting in GMC stealership for 2 weeks. When I test drove it had the wobble. I still bought it and took straight to Discount.

they balanced the tire and wobble at 55 was gone but the 65-70 range was still there.
Took it again to Discount. They road balanced and rotated. ( front to back and vice Versa ).... and voila !!! It feels like butter ...

remember Toyota recommends 30 psi in front and 33 in back for stock tires and 20 wheels. But get them to 35 psi in all four corners.... unless you are having load or hauling ...

I am no expert on it but it did solve the issue ..

I got a new 2020 in January before the virus hit and it was good. steering wheel dead on, no vibrations at any speed through the 3k it has on it now. It's a TRD off road plus package with the P275/65R18 Michelein LTX AT2s.

**36 psi in all 4 since day 1

WHOW!!! Relative bought a new car, that was dropped from the truck. Should not have been sold as new!!! An independent mechanic told him it had body work and a bent frame. Did not go down the street strait and quickly wore out tires. Had to go to court.

Why are tires flat spotting all of a sudden a thing? Flat spotting hasn't been an issue since cars went to radials. I've never had a tire flat spot from sitting. If your tires are flat spotting after sitting over night, then they are defective. I've been on several forums for 20 years or so. This is literally the first time I'm seeing it as an excuse.

I think it is the stock tires. This truck is too heavy vehicle to be on car tires. I bought mine with a shimmy at hiway speeds anyway. 38k for a trd sport was too good a price to turn down and I had to get out of that gm tranny nightmare. However my steering wheel was straight. I put K02 275/60/20 on at 1k miles. 40k now and counting. Road forced balance, as most 4 wheel shops do. And With a proper alignment that the dealer will not do. This made a big difference!

Perhaps you can explain why my truck always has a shake after sitting over night that goes away after driving a couple of miles. Please enlighten me.

Yeah definitely not common. And I came from a 2013 F150 with a *terrible* vibration/shimmy issue, so I was/am already on a hair trigger. But yep, my 2020 is smooth as silk.

I don't know, but one of the biggest benefits of radial tires was lack of flat spotting. Bias tires are known for it, especially in the cold. What size tires are they? Maybe it's a low pro thing? But tires shouldn't get a flat spot from sitting 8-12 hours. Doing some research, it is possible if sitting loaded for days, weeks or months with a heavy load sitting on the tires. For high performance, high speed tires (track tires) they could take a flat spot after being hot and then immediately sitting for hours. Just doesn't seem right to get flat spots when sitting over night. These trucks aren't that heavy compared to the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and I don't see a ton of issues with those trucks considering they weigh considerably more.
