I have a 2014 Tundra with towing package, and have read their is an integrated brake controller. Does every tow pkg come with one? Aside from a 7 pin connection I have no evidence of a brake controller. My thought is the controller can be either on or off. About to get a travel trailer, and want to definitely know whether I should buy a Tekonsha P3 or wait?

    Thanks!

Your towing package does mean that it comes with a trailer brake wire wired up under the dash near the steering wheel. You’ll need to pop off those plastic trim pieces to find...you can get a Tekonsha P3 harness which plugs the P3 directly into that pigtail, plug and play. Factory trailer brake controllers are awful.

Are you sure you have the tow package, or do you just have a receiver and trailer light plug?

My old 2017 SR5 4.6L had a receiver and plug so I figured it had the tow package, but I found out that the tow package was optional on the 4.6 but comes standard on the 5.7. The tow package includes the trailer brake controller, tow/haul button, heavy duty battery, transmission cooler, etc.
My new 2019 TRD Sport 5.7 has the actual tow package, not just a receiver and plug.

SunTundra413, No - I have the 5.7 Limited Texas Edition, came with spray-in bed liner and definitely have the tow package - no question at all. Includes the tow/haul button, heavy duty battery, and transmission cooler. and wired for a brake controller. I've towed a ski boat and a tandem-axle flatbed trailer for years. I've bought a Tekonsha Primus IQ and wiring harness, it will be here tomorrow and will install it Wed eve.

    Thanks everyone for the comments!

The IBC was not available on the 2014, however it is prewired for an aftermarket one (driver's kick panel). The 2015 was wired for the OEM IBC, but did not come with it, it can be added to the 2015. It was standard on 2016+, but did have some issues. There is a software fix for earlier (2016) trucks.
