Hey guys. I noticed this morning that when I’m cruising in my truck and I squeeze the brake controller button I can feel my truck doing something and my rpm goes up slightly (like 100 or 200). I don’t know if this is normal and what exactly is happening. For context I have a 2015 rclb 5.7L 4wd, I was not towing this morning ( squeezed it just because and noticed my truck reacting to the button squeeze) and I have a tekonsha unit wired into the trucks plug behind the dash. Any advice?

Pulls more power from the Alternator?? best I could think of that can impact RPM

I considered that but since I don’t have a trailer plugged in the circuit is open and not drawing anything. Does the brake controller gently apply my trucks brakes too?

umm no, the controller needs power from something, unless you got it using the force or batteries, the only place it could draw power from is the battery or the alternator... its impacting your rpm then controller draws power from the alternator raising your rpms.... Idk, if I'm breaking it down, or I'm beating around the bush, lol... its normal since the alternator has to make more power for the controller..

no, I don't have a brake controller, but just like power steering and AC, when you turn the steering wheel the rpm will rise and fall like turning on and off the AC engine load output increases and decreases as needed.

Activating the brake controller should light up the brake lights. Truck sees brake applied and unlocks the torque converter :notsure:

    Yup!

Hold the brake controller lever long enough without raising your right foot and the engine RPM will drop to idle too, thanks to the brake override programming.

When I hit the button my rpm goes up...you’re saying it will eventually go down?

so my truck is acting normally?
