Well, I was finally able to purchase my first handgun. I ended up getting the Glock 19 Gen4. I was really close to getting the Sig P320 or the M&P Shield, but decided on the Glock. Those others will for sure be on my radar going forward.

But for now, I have the Glock. So I wanted to ask, what are some "Must Haves" for it? I know they are all subjective to you personally and may or may not be good for me, but I just wanted to get thoughts on what you use and like. If you can provide any links for me to check out, even better.

    -Night sights
    -Holster
    -Case
-What ammo do you like best?

Anything else? I probably wont do anything else specifically to the gun for a while to mod it, but has anyone done the Extended slide lever, triggers, extended mag release?

    Thanks again for any info.

Night sights are a must. I bought trijicon HD, but there are plenty choices. I carry mine in a stealth gear ventcore. As for ammo most brass is fine. Remington umc is the only one on my list I refuse to buy so far.

I added an extended slide release (Glock brand) and did the $0.25 polish job on the internals to get a smoother trigger, you can Youtube it. Also I added a G17 trigger to mine as it has a smooth surface instead of the grooved surface trigger that came with the gun. Yea night sights a must, I need to get around to adding them to mine. I also bought a G17 magazine for mine for the extra two rounds and I bought the Glock brand G18 magazine which is 33 rounds I believe, didn't know if high capacity would be an issue around election time so I picked one up it's not practical but cool.

Found one with the silly G18 magazine but has a little better view of the slide release.

On the extended mag release, some say not to do it as it can get pressed while carrying the weapon and when you go to grab it the mag fall out.

Yeah, I've definitely thought of that so it's probably a good call not to do that one. I do like the extended slide release idea though.

Check out the 25 cent trigger job, you basically take something like Mothres Mag Wheel Polish and polish the moving components to a mirror shine which gives you a little smoothness in the action. You have to totally disassemble the weapon (slide and frame) but you will learn your weapon while doing so, there are tons of youtube videos on how to do both.

undercut and stipple is a must. if you wanna get crazy send the slide out to get machined for an RMR and cocking serrations. At the very least a set of trijicon HD's. I do all my own stippling and undercuts. If I can do it anyone can. If its a range gun I would also do extended slide release. If its just a carry gun you can do without it. if you are reloading in a self defense situation then you are in a really rough spot. for a holster I am a fan of Tier 1.

night sights are a must. For Ammo it depends on the purpose. For the range I tend to stick with Winchester white box. It isn't the "cleanest' ammo in the world but it is cheap and I clean my gun after every use anyway. The ammo I use for everyday carry is Hornady Critical Defense. I would try several different brands and find one that works best for you and your weapon.

    Some good suggestions on here.

    Mine are simple:

    -A good set of sights.

-Practice, practice and get really good with your 19. I’m not going to discredit any other suggestion, but right out of the box, the G19 is more accurate than most shooters. I would spend my time developing good habits and accuracy. Speed follows these two skills.

I've seen the undercut and will probably do that for sure eventually. I think it would really help me and my grip. I have seen those that custom the slide and it looks so bad ass. I may also eventually do that, but probably leave it as is for now.

On the Trijicon HDs, do you like the orange, or yellow fronts? Also, I'm assuming the rear sights glow as well right? I need to do more research on them.

    Thanks for all the info!

I like the yellow. Rear sight is a u instead of notch which I like better. And yes rear glow. Try them.

I'm going to guess his argument is going to be "because there is no safety"

    @OP get trijicon night sights
I also got vickers mag floor plates so I could get the mags out easier if I have a doublefeed.

great all around gun! it was my first handgun as well.

do nothing to it until you have put a thousand plus rounds through it and are competent with the gun. practice with a purpose. lots of great drills on youtube.

Night sights are a good place to start on my 26 I found the most useful mod was the extended mag release there was times at the range I had trouble getting it to release with 1 hand.

I get it, and that's the plan. But the first few things I listed seem pretty reasonable out the gate as just added accessories. As far as the extended releases, slides, etc.; it would be cool to see what others have done, but dont plan to do those until much later, if at all.

One thing to consider with the extended slide release is where your thumbs are when shooting. I ride high thumbs and the extended release can induce malfunctions for me. I am not a fan of them.

What kind of cases do you use when like taking it to the range? Do you use the one it came in? I figure there has to be a better one.
