Bear with me here as I NEED to cheap out for the next few months due to a dirt bike rebuild already in progress. And landscaping...and horses etc etc etc

I already have an XR1 3" single in and single out sitting on my shelf from a previously unfulfilled project and was thinking of getting a Y pipe, cutting out the stock muffler and putting in the Borla. Yeah the exit will be restricted, but I'm ok with that near term.

I searched to see if anyone else has attempted but haven't found anything. Anyone have any insights as to how this experiment will go?

Why would one want to restrict their exhaust?

It would be the same restriction as stock. The rear stick tail section is already too small for the design Toyota has. So no diff other than having a 3 inch in the middle.

huh, I must have measured wrong. The tail pipe is just a smidge under 3" this may work better than I thought.

Is the truck not running ? Do you have a hole in the existing muffler? If you "NEED to cheap out for the next few months".... nothing is cheaper then doing nothing?
If you want to do a low budget exhaust, by all means go ahead....if the ultimate goal is putting on a dirtydeeds or similar, then wait the few months then start saving for what you want.

just wondering if anyone's done it, that's it. As I said, I already have the muffler. Not sure what I was expecting on a forum. I'll just throw someone $100 to weld it in and we'll see what happens. This isn't a race rig for sure.

Well, $300 all in and I can report back that its a total success.

    1 y pipe
    1 xr1 borla
    28" quarter wave resonator/tube

Sounds better than my nieghbors TRD dual pipe and ZERO drone.

If you have an independent shop around willing to work with you, you can do it as well.
