    Hey guys,

Anyone know if I can do a body mount chop on a leased Tundra? I know it’s a dumb question but I just put some 295 70 18 and they rub. Thank you.

i have never leased a vehicle and am not familiar with the contract you sign, but that seems like a terrible idea. maybe try getting an alignment and maxing out your caster before cutting on the body mount...

No sales person will ever be able to tell it is there. You’re gonna put stock wheels/tires on it when you turn it in anyways

Not a wise idea, but if it looked clean I’m sure there’s a chance you’d get away with it. I don’t think there’s any good advice for this except to say proceed at your own risk!

My brothers 2018 Tundra fit 295/70/18 with no lift and no BMC. Skid plate needed a slight trimming though. For sure get an alignment done.

Leased vehicles are usually run through Manheim auto auction upon their return. Manheim does a frame inspection of the green light vehicles and they offer a return policy and warranty based on their vehicle inspection. As they maintain an element of liability they are exceptionally picky about their inspections. They have been known to list vehicles as “frame damaged” for scratches to the frame.

    Food for thought.

Just my .02 but I wouldn't. Salesperson wouldn't be doing the "Toyota Certified" inspection when you turn it in, certified mechanic would.

I don’t think that’s really the point. You’re advocating that he screw the next person down the line because it won’t end up being his problem.

i dont see how it is screwing someone? The bmc does nothing to the integrity of the vehicle

a far better case of screwing a future buyer would be the wear/tear of the 295 tires on the trans

No, you should not do a body mount chop on a leased vehicle.

I have to say I agree with Zapp and Bravo. If you are leasing the vehicle then you do not own it, or have any intention of owning it. Treat it like a car your friend loaned you and ask permission before you modify anything in a permanent manner.

obviously, a lot of opinions on this. it's a subjective question. here's another subjective question: are the associated risks worth it for 295s? IMO, those tires are almost imperceptibly larger than stock tires. what's really the point? now, if your goal was to stuff 37s...;)

I'd vote no to that type of modification to a leased vehicle and stick to bolt-on mods that can be removed easily later (and sold). If you're really that invested into modifications to the truck you probably should have bought it instead of leasing it. After all you don't lease a house and start tearing down walls and remodeling do ya?

Only if you are willing to buy the vehicle if they figure out you hacked it up.

I know they will go around and check for bondo on door panels with magnets and stuff, but not sure if they check the wheel wells.

My lease specifically states no suspension modifications. However, if you plan to trade or buy out the vehicle at the end then you're fine. It's only relevant if you are turning the vehicle back in.

What wheels do you have? What’s the offset? You should be able to avoid the cab mount with an alignment. And aren’t you rubbing on the front bumper also?

Thanks guys for all your input.

My wheels are a +18 Offset. My tires were hitting the front black shield and the rear mud flap. The shot that sold me the wheels and tires said they would not hit. I was originally going to go with 285 70 18.

I already removed those the first day I did the spacer lift. It’s hitting the body mount.

It's easy to figure out, ask who you are leasing it from. If they say you can, get it in writing

If someone on Tundras.com says you can or should, it doesn't mean squat when you got to return the vehicle. I'm guessing they won't step up and pay any damages you may owe.

The internet is the last place I'd ask a question like this.

If they can add more caster, you can probably get the wheel away from the cab mount. I’d definitely try that before chopping a leased truck. Are you planning to return the truck completely back to stock when you return it? So you’re holding onto the wheels for 3 years?

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
Best case scenario - you put money into a truck you don't own and lose that money when you turn it back in.
Worst case scenario - the dealership catches it and they have you pay for the repair? which you'd turn into insurance? not sure how Toyota would handle this but it could possibly cost you money when you turn it in.

Either way its money out the door over the short term, with no long term benefit.

I wouldn't do it unless you were planning on buying the truck after the lease ends.

No insurance is going to pay that claim. Worst case scenario would be he is forced to pay for the entire residual value amount and he keeps the truck. The problem really gets interesting if he doesn’t have the cash to pay and no bank wants to finance it if they know why the dealer won’t take it back.
