I wasn't either ('85), but the shirt was a gift from my wife who was born in '84 so I like to think that gives me rights lol

I hit it with 2 coats of Rust-Oleum paint & primer - gloss black, and then finished it with a clear coat.

Took a day trip down to Patagonia and was the first time towing with the RSB. Half the trip is on a two lane windy road through the hills and noticed a difference in the handling. Felt like I had more control around the corners and didn't feel like I had to slow down to keep control.

Just got a bath and had to strike a pose:

Finally got around to installing the Coachbuilder shackles and shims! Got almost exactly an inch up front and 1.5" in the rear.

    Before:

    After:

Also threw on some Pro Comp wheels and love the stance

VERY nice! I've been waiting to see how those turned out... I love the stance of your truck - hoping mine looks that good when I'm done!

I know how it is to find time to install the goods... I have a set of CB +2's and shims that have been sitting in my garage for about two weeks now. I'm hoping to get around to it next week... How long did install take you? I'm guessing rear should be super easy, but I haven't researched the fronts too much.

Also, I know the AAL stiffened up the rear of your truck, which helps bc you tow a lot, but how is it for everyday? I'm doing the CB's to add some rake, but also hope the rear doesn't squat so much when I tow (18' boat/18' camping trailer). I don't tow THAT often, but summer IS here:yay:

    Thank you sir!

Total time took about 3.5 hours. The fronts are kind of a pain cause you need to remove the bolts from the LCA to the steering knuckle and loosen the bolts that connect the LCA to the frame so you can lower the arm to get the strut out. Not hard but with the TRD skid plate its pretty tight under there.

Most of the time I don't even notice the stiffness from the AAL. I do notice it on rough roads or dirt roads with washboards, the back bounces a little. A couple weeks ago before I installed the shackles I towed my 18' boat with gear in the bed and it seemed to be perfectly level. So you should be ok since the +2s will give you a little more lift than with just an AAL.

Thanks! I may do the rears and see what it looks like - maybe hold off on the fronts until I can get some bigger tires and then could use the extra clearance...

Love! I'm getting my shims and shackles this week. Was wondering if you have any pointers regarding the shims install? Is there an efficient way of doing it? Thanks in advance.

They're kind of a pain because you have to loosen the bolts that connect the lower arm to the frame to release enough tension so you can pry down the arm and remove the shock. There's not a ton of room to work with these bolts (especially with the TRD skid on). Since these torque at 207 ft/lbs, one thing that I did was after everything was installed and put back together, I got the bolts as tight as I could and then took her to a shop around the corner for an alignment and let them deal with torque spec.

So I got the Coachbuilder +2 shackles on; still debating on adding a shim to the fronts - sometimes she seems too raked out, sometimes she seems perfect. I'm sure bigger tires would make a big difference in how she looks, but my wife thwarted that plan last night (at least for now!).

I know only one shim on the fronts will only add half an inch, but I wonder if it will be just enough or if I should leave her like she is for now... I don't want to add two bc that pretty much undoes any rake I gained from the +2's. Any thoughts?

Pic below is with my 18' camper hooked up (weight distribution hitch NOT engaged). Sag isn't bad at all. When I engaged the bars on the WDH, truck and camper sit perfectly level (without any coolers, etc in the bed.)

I think she looks perfect there!! Nicely done!

I remember when I was talking to David at Ekstrom he mentioned that he came out with the +3's specifically for the '16+ models since they have bigger gas tanks. So his recommendation for '16s was +3's shackles and 2 shims up front. I would say since you used the +2's that you might end up with a bro lean if you use the shims, or if you do I would only do 1 each side. If you plan on bigger tires I would do that first and ride on it awhile to see how you like it and then decide from there.

    Thanks!!!

Yeah, when I was ordering shackles and talking to David, I kind of figured new tires were not in the cards, so I went with +2's and one shim... Kind of a compromise I guess. I also worried that if I took it up too high, the already small looking tires would look even smaller lol.

The bigger tank does make a difference for sure; about 1/4-3/8" from half to full.

Yeah last thing you want is to have your truck look like it skipped leg day, and then fall down another money pit with tires and wheels.

My big concern was still fitting the truck in the garage.. man I got close lol. Looks like I'm done lifting her... for now lol

Using Rust-Oleum Truck Bed spray. Figured I would give it a shot since it's only like 7 bucks a can. It's def not as tough as something like Line-x but looks pretty good so far for just one coat

What issues did you have with the DupliColor? Chiping?

I almost went with DupliColor or Herculiner but it was more expensive than the Rust-Oleum. So far for the 14 bucks that I spent I am pretty happy. But the real test is when I get them installed and fling a few rocks up at them or have a couple car doors slam into them.

Took me awhile to pull the trigger on these with all the other options out there, but glad I did. Plus without the top plates it's a great price!

If you want a durable paint that's flat black try the paint designed for grills(high heat) it's a tough paint.
