Hey everyone. My '18 platinum CM has an ongoing issue with the Bluetooth connection. I get in and start the truck and if I was listening to the radio via Bluetooth when I shut it off it will reconnect like normal. The problem is that it connects and disconnects constantly (stops, starts, stops starts). In order to get it to stop I have to turn off the BT on my phone momentarily and then turn it back on and then the connection is fine.
How do I go about fixing this problem? anyone heard of this before?

That’s because the radio is a complete asshole!! Mine does weird stuff like this too. Sometimes it just shuts off and resets it self. Sometimes I have to hold the power button because it freezes up. I need to go in for an update at the dealer. You should look into it.

My 08 will do this shit, I have one of the wireless BT dealios in my aux port for music. It’ll kick off either on a bumpy stretch of road, and will sometimes just do it randomly. Wonder if there’s a loose wire somewhere behind the head somewhere.

I had my HU out recently and loose wires weren't my problem.

What kind of phone do you have? I have had a 2013 and now a 2018, (both had stock stereos with NAV) and I have currently an iPhone 6s +. Never had this issue with either of my trucks.

I'm not sure, might be my phone? I'll need to ask my tech adviser, aka 15 yr. old daughter.

I have the same issue on my 18 too.

It did it twice when I started my truck and then walk away with my phone connected to Bluetooth. I hopped back in my truck and it starts skipping!!! I shut the truck off and restarted it and didn’t work.

Mine always skips when on BT. Annoying as shit. So I just plug in the USB now, or don’t listen to anything on short drives.

My 2018 Tundra radio bluetooth is intermittent also. The radio constantly loses connection with the bluetooth on my iPhone 8 and sometimes the radio will re-boot itself. I never know when it will happen butr usually happens 3-4 times on each drive. The dealer did a software update on the radio but the problem is no better. It has done this since day one. The service advisor at the dealer said, "Toyota's don't like iPhones" and winked at me. I find his humor unacceptable.

I just recently started having an issue with my Bluetooth connection as well. However mine just does not recognize and connect to my phone anymore. The same phone it's been connecting to everyday since the day I bought it. Tried the whole reset thing, deleting the connected devices and re pairing them, and still nothing I'm clueless...

I wonder if the dealership has a software update that’d fix that.

They do have a software update. I just left the dealership. It costs $50. That really makes me angry that they charge you for that.

My 2014 does the same but everything looses connection radio, Bluetooth, aux. It like everything freezes and I can't even power it down. Dealership says its the apps on the phone getting updates but when everything freezes up I have checked my phone and there is nothing new on it

Ok I do have to go to the dealership because the website won't let me do it. I called back and the guy said some of the updates were tearing up the radio. Go to https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/getupdates

i have a 2017 SR5 TRD Double Cab with the Navigation Unit and I had the same issues, didn't want to spend the money for a dealer charge on the software upgrade so you can download it here and it is FREE!! All you need is a formatted USB flash drive and now I have no issues. I have an Iphone X.

So I have a 2015 SR5 Texas Edition and I downloaded and installed the software patch. Checked the version after I was done and it was the latest, however it doesn't seem to have fixed my issue with bluetooth random disconnects. Not sure yet about the random freezing and rebooting yet just did it today. I have a Note 8 btw. I am going to test my Old Note 3 and see if it does it with that phone as well...

Seems like everytime there is a phone update, bluetooth is one of the main things that gets screwed...after enough bitching, the phone makers will throw a small update to fix it...

I have the iPhone XS. So far, I have updated my phone, disconnected it from radio and vice versa, done the update and Toyota even replaced the radio but it’s still happening on phone calls. Is there a link that I can update the new radios myself?

My 2019 was dropping calls. I followed another post and deleted my itunes and apple store from my phone. Reset the network setting and it works now. Fingers crossed.

^^^^^This is what happens in my 2019 too. It drives me nuts, always right in the middle of the call, the Bluetooth cuts out.

I feel like I shouldn't have to delete my itunes and app store (?). How did you reset the network setting?

It still cuts out. Toyota doesn’t have a clue why. Last time I checked, there wasn’t a software update available. Really sucks.
