If I had to do it again I would pay for install (I was quoted $750). I think it turned out good but DANG that sucked. My fingers are killing me, I have a new found hatred for hog rings and it took every bit of 15 hours to do it.

What was the most biggest PITA mod you’ve done?

At this point in my build/mods, my biggest PITA mod was putting in cab lights. Probably the sheer trauma of cutting holes and drilling into new sheet metal was 90% of it.

Good job! I think it looks really good. Most of my MODS have been pretty straight forward. I guess I’ll say the airbags. They weren’t terrible but putting the truck on a lift would have been a lot easier.

@texasrho83 I would have been sweating bullets cutting those holes.

@BTBAKER thank you! I can imagine that airbags would be a bear to tackle.

@Darkness yes remove factory upholstery and reupholstered with leather.

Fitting the wiring harness for the Auto Climate Controls on a 2nd Gen is something that was such a pain that I would only suffer to do it for myself, not for another.

That might be just what I need for my GTI. The rest of my interior is clean but the front seats are beat to hell. That's half the price of NOS leather.
:hattip:glad you went through this and posted, thanks.

I did the head rests and the rear seats. Then started calling around and got a quote for $250 to install the fronts only. Like you, I developed a severe hatred for hog rings. I'm going to have them install the carbon heaters' heating elements only and then do the wiring and switch install myself.

Yeah from what I've seen, installing the sound deadening is a LONG process that requires a LOT of patience...I admire those who've tackled it themselves!!

Did the seats on a previous Tundra, the Hog-Rings are the biggest PITA. The pro shops have high quality specialized pliers for the job that I'm sure makes it 10x easier. The crappy pliers that come with the seat kits are the worst.

I tackled that prior to the seats......that one sucks to for sure. Would have been wise to space those two projects out a bit more.

Good job OP on your install.

My roof rack was the biggest pain to install. Very time consuming and a pain to work around all the finished painted surfaces.

I’ll go with installing heated/leather as well.

After pulling the seats apart, I imagine any first-timer has to think the same thing- “what the hell did I just do?!”

The result is awesome though! FBCB281E-C71C-4F2D-9255-868A343247A4.jpg FC360EE8-A4B6-4C0D-AE88-52B9DCB1E74E.jpg

My biggest pita mod was tinting the front windows myself. I kept re-doing them until they were perfect. I've done a few katzkin installs and for me, the biggest pain with that was the heated seat pad install. For those DIY'ing the seats, get some sort of steam device. I've had good luck using a Shark handheld steam cleaner. You can steam out and smooth the packing wrinkles in the leather. It also helpful to steam heat the flat spots out of the foam cushions

I have a few from when I had to pull them off and re-glue (using super glue) the LEDs because they were originally hot glued and the hot TX temps melted the glue inside the housings. (Found a couple more)
