I will be needing new tires soon and have been researching.
I will be keeping current wheels (20 x 9 +40) - primarily due to budget.
My 2017 TRD crewmax is my daily driver. I live in San Diego and estimate 1 - 2 days/ month offroad in hard packed dirt and loose sand.
I do not have a camper shell and do not tow regularly or haul heavy loads.
Though we do not get many local rain days I prefer to have a tire that has decent traction in wet conditions.
Another factor is that I have Bilstein 6112's (3rd setting/1.9) and 5160's with Coachbulider +2 shackles and 3 CB coilover shims; none of this is installed yet but should be soon. I am on the fence with regard to installing 2 shims driver side/ 1 shim passenger side or just 1 shim driver side (each .25" shim provides approximately .50" of lift). So, I will either end up with the truck somewhat leveled or with approx. 2.75" front and 1.25" rear. I am pondering how these heigths will mesh with 285/60/20 and 275/60/20. Looking for the best balance overall. I am also considering the following tires - Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT, Falken A/T3W (285/60/20), Yokohama Geolander A/TG015 (275/60/20).

I would love to go 285/75/17 however, that will not be the case at this time.

Any wisdom/experience shared is much appreciated.

Totally different topic but I wanted to put a plug in for Keith - Dirty Deeds- BA Mufflers. I had the 8" standard installed when I got the truck (2017) and love it everyday- highly recommended not only for the great sound and performance but the outstanding customer support.

Extra width will look a lot better with 9 inch wide wheel imo

Agreed. When I first got the truck I was looking at 295/60/20. I changed my plan ended really wanting Icon Rebounds with 285/75s - now after a reality check it looks like I will be keeping my 20" wheels. They are Asanti Offroad AB807 with Nitto TG G2s (275/55/20) and were on the truck as a dealer upgrade - I was able to negotiate that add-on; basically no charge for the wheel/ tire upgrade as well as the sill protectors and some other crap they were charging an arm & leg for. I was unable to negotiate all weather mats and a bed mat- I bought those...
