Hey Fellas. I love your opinion on this. I'm ready to Blackout all the emblems . So there is three ways to do this and would like some input on the best way to do it. Obviously the hardest way is to completely remove the chrome emblems and replace them with OEM black emblems. The second option is 2 buy an OEM overlays. But I was not able to find OEM overlay for the word limited. My local dealership said they don't make it OEM.
The third option is to Plasti dip.
I like things done perfect and done once and for all. Which do you recommend out of the three options? And does anyone know where to buy the word limited overlay? If I was to go with an overlay, I'm worried that if I find an aftermarket limited, it might not match the rest of the OEM.

Have you checked to see if other toyota vehicles have the black overlay like the tundra. 4runners etc that have the black overlay. Might be the same emblem they reuse on more than one vehicle.

I did it very simply with plastidip. Easy, cheap, and lasts long if you do it right.

Same issue I had and I wasn’t paying $60 for the eBay limited overlay. I hit mine with plastidip. You can’t tell the limited badge has plastidip and the others have the actual Toyota black overlays.

Overlays. Just did them on mine. Sourced 2 limited overlays from Ebay for $20 and the tundra/v8 overlay I haggled a wholesaler from cali down to $60 for the 4 I needed. Didnt need the sr5 or 4x4 that typically come with the overlay kits. They're oem so perfect fit and the 3m tape, per usual, holds well. If you're in a cold climate, prepare to spend a few hours applying them. Had to use the wife's hair dryer to warm everything up to temp.20191207_134638.jpg

To clarify, the LIMITED overlay I found was for a 4runner as well (it was OEM). It matched the Tundra specific overlays exactly. All 3 overlays are flush with the truck and fit perfectly. Shop around on ebay for them. A lot of sellers you can negotiate on price/pieces you need. Like I said above, I got all 6 pieces I need for around ~$80 versus the ~$140 for the entire kit that had pieces I did not need.

I only used the ebay one as an example my main thing was to let the op know that the limited could be found but under another toyota vehicle since he mention he couldn’t find “limited”. But I like the overlays I have one 4x4 I use for my tailgate in my platinum. I would not pay 60 bucks myslef

Is the limited OEM as well ? I'm assuming if it is, it's probably for the Tacoma since no OEM for tundra overlays . But still works?

The packaging for mine were OEM but I'm honestly not sure. Maybe a Sequoia? Fitment was 100% tho.

I ordered black OEM Pro emblems, but if I could do it over again I'd just plasti-dip. My neighbor plasti-dipped his and they've held up well and look good, and most people who have done it on here seem to be happy with it. Plus, if you screw it up you can just peel it off and start over.

Remove the chrome badges and replaced them with black. Easy to do, and less time consuming than plasti-dip.

I replaced the "Tundra" and "I-Force 5.7 V8" and added the 4x4 badge in 30 minutes. It took me longer to remove the vinyl dealer sticker.

It's funny. I went out this AM and shot some pics with my new 50mm lens and took some shots of the limited overlay. I also have a pic of the Tundra overlay I shot the other day. I'll post both here and you can see what the overlays look like.

So basically here is what I'm gathering.
The cheapest option is to Plasti dip.
Second option is to use the overlay. And the cleanest and best option is to remove and replace with OEM black ones like the pro . It's the most expensive way but the proper way.
Are the black OEM emblems metal or plastic?

Is there a difference between OEM overlays and generic ones found on eBay/Amazon (other than $70-80)?

Yes. Reviews on some eBay China ones are bad fit, poor finish and crappy adhesive. That said, I don't have experience with either. I removed most and left them off.

If you are going to buy overlays, consider how much your truck cost and if it's worth saving $15 on eBay overlays vs OEM.

I plastidipped mine with about 6 layers and then one layer of clear plastidip that has metallic flakes so it matches my MGM paint. Looks good. Been on 3 years no issues. No way is right or wrong or proper imo. They all work well just have to be done right.

I bought my OEM on eBay for $70 because it does not include the 4x4 and the SR5. And bought the Limited separately. Not all the ones on eBay are from China .

I just picked up my truck last night and I asked the dealer to throw in black badges for some inconvenience with waiting for my truck and some other things.

I gave them these part numbers and they are supposed to call me when they come in for me to pick up at no charge.
Let's hope they get the right ones and don't try and charge me!

Are these the overlays or the ones that you completely have to take out the ones you have on the truck and install new ones?

These should be the 5 black emblems/badges (not overlays) from the TRD PRO. They are part numbers straight off the pro.
The tailgate badge is an accessory and has the accessory part number. I think the OEM overlays are also an accessory and come in a kit and have one single accessory part number for the whole kit.
There is no SR5 emblem in black, just an overlay. So for that I will have to leave it chrome, get an overlay for just SR5, take it off and dip it or just take it off completely and leave it off.
For those looking for black limited emblems I think people use the one off the nightshade edition of the 4Runner.
