Hey guys looking at a new retractable cover and the guys at gator covers gave me a pretty decent price as I had that on my f150. Wanted to see if anyone had experience with them or if anyone can recommend another company. Also, how are ease of install? Seems like the only truck they don’t have an install video on is the tundra.

Must be retractable. Thanks In advance

I’ve got the Truck Covers USA American Roll Cover on my ‘21. Had the same cover on my ‘08 for nearly 290k miles with no issues, so Night a new one for my new truck and now 21k on it.
All metal canister and cover, smallest canister size, easy install (did it myself in about an hour).

    I second @RainMan_PNW (dang dude, already 21k. You’re motoring!)

I also have a TC USA. Love it

some might say the retrax pro because of the ability to easily add a rack on the back.

Do they deal to customer direct or do you have to go to a dealer

You have to go through a dealer, but if you reach out to them direct and work with Kim to find a good dealer they usually sweeten the pot a bit.

I was strictly negotiationing on the "Recoil"....when i was ready to order it was on back order- I went with the LoMax instead.
Hit the Chat button and negotiate with the rep. 10% discount is a given -

You really should look into the RetraxPro XR if you are looking at the MX, because having the T-Slot option to add a set of Yakima Overhaul HD rack is something to think about. After weeks of research, I got the Undercover Armorflex because it was the best option for a tri-fold. However, I didn't really think about the bed rack option until after the fact. So now I have a used RetraxPro XR and selling my like-new Undercover Armorflex at a lost.

TCUSA guy here. I like that I can fit my giant Plano trunks under the canister:

I like that my Dometic fridge fits under it as well:

I inquired about a good rack for a RTT and was told by TCUSA that they’re working on a track system directly with Yakima that will accommodate the Overhaul and Outpost HD racks. It will be available this December/January. Here’s one more pic:

I went with the Retrax because of the t slot option. I bought a set of low profile cross bars that allow me to attach my Thule carrier. I couldn't be happier. It's not cheap, but it's a great setup.

My mountain top cover also has t slots and I've mounted a Yakima crossbar rack to it. Also not a cheap setup though

Thanks for advice guys. This has gone on the back burner for now as the truck is now eligible to be lemon lawed. Trying to work with Toyota and/or the dealership for best solution.

Another vote for Retrax pro XR. They’re expensive, but great quality, fit and finish & the t slot channel is pretty sweet. Customer service is good too.

    Pricey, but so worth it.

Versatile, rugged, sleek, easy to install, effortless to operate, and it can be locked down in any position.

Front passenger window wont go down or up from the driver side panel, both lights are blinking blue. They tried a reset, worked for a day then it was back. Then they tried replacing the window motor, didn’t work. The Toyota regional guy came out, replaced everything else he thought it could be, no go. He is now out of ideas and said the only 2 other options are striping the entire car down and seeing if it’s electrical and finding the issue, or lemon law as they’ve taken 4 cracks at it and said they pulled and replaced everything they could and the problem persists. Total miles on the truck 900. Started at mile 30. Been in and out of the dealer the last month more times than I care to remember, but thankful they are helping me and they are really good with keeping me in the loop.

only problem is a lemon law is a complete loss in my eyes as I won’t get another 21 pro and the 22 pro will be above the price point I’d pay so they’d replace with a lesser model that I don’t want. (Not even diving into the TTV6 vs the V8) or they completely refund my money and I go and get torched by another brand and be upside down immediately due to lack of incentives or rebates that were available 2 years ago.

We’ll see where it ends up, my ultimate goal is keeping the truck and having it fixed.

I have a Pace Edwards (Leer) Ultragroove Metal which is compatible with a few rail systems if you want to carry bikes or other attachments on top of the bed. There is also enough room for a Decked system below.

Just out of curiosity.....how secure are these type of retractable set ups? Safe to leave stuff in the bed overnight or are they as easy to get into as what I thought was my secure low profile ARE locking bed cover?

Not familiar with the cover you mention but I look at these as a deterrent. With enough time someone can get in through the tailgate or cover. Think of these as a garage door on your bed, similar means of entry are possible.

Most of these covers are clamped on to the sides or use the bed rails to secure to the bed. The locking mechanism is similar to the two rod latching mechanism of garage doors:

Some of the variants that have a key lock are able to prevent the tonneau from retracting even if the latches are undone.:

I suppose someone with the skills could pick the lock but I’ll tell you— sawing through this thing would be a noisy nightmare.

edit: my vote goes to retrax!

Best of luck,, A Pro can still be had here and there. In fact a local dealer has one on a list as still coming in but has no date and that is for a 21??, so they are out there just not many and no dates as to when??

I’m hoping the retrax XR goes on sales this year for Black Friday. I think it was 30% last year according to their Facebook.
