There are a million different Bluetooth trackers that have popped up recently. Looking to get some to place on different items. The purpose ranges from if stolen i can potentially find it if within Bluetooth range and based on last location it transmitted from to finding the damn small remote when i loose it in the couch.

There are so many of them, which are good and which are junk?

Actually this is a great idea. I have three items specifically that could use this tech.

I have 2 trailers and a Jeep that I would like to get some tech like this.

Are most gps units have service contracts?

I briefly looked into a couple around christmas and started reading about how some (the Tile brand I think) share tons of location data with anyone and anything, even other phones that are in bluetooth range that have the Tile app installed, to create a location network. There is no way to limit what they share and to whom. Felt like I would be buying a tracking device for others to monitor me...not to locate my lost goods.

I doubt all the options are that "open" but something to look out for.

Mighty fine point you bring up. That would suck to have your own anti-theft devices work against you.

Especially if you are naming the device that you put it on.

Looking at the Tile it says that others cant see your tiles. In the background of the app it does locate other devices around so that the owner can see where their item is with the use of other peoples phones. Hackable probably. Typical user cant see your device.
The problem i have is the battery is sealed and has to be replaced once a year. They have a retile program to exchange for a new one at a discounted rate. Still would rather have one i can just buy batteries for.

No one mentioned tile? It has done the best in the Bluetooth wallet tracker in recent years, not only has a compact size and is cheap, and has a long battery life. I installed one on important small items such as keys and wallets, and finding them became easy as long as I knew how to find my phone.
