I've hated the seats in my '17 Limited for some time. I've gone so far as to swap the drivers seat to factory cloth, then tried cutting up the OE cushion and adding different foam (I bought 4 different types of foam from various vendors) and then buying a new OE seat cushion after that didn't work.

Well yesterday I got it in my head that I was going to try the simplest of solutions and I'm pleased to say I've got an acceptable result. Not great, but acceptable.

I simply added a batting material in between the cushion and the heater elements. Also, and this I think is key, I took the metal rod out of the middle seam in the seat bottom. I also put the same batting material in the upper part of the seat back. I used 3m spray glue to hold it while I fitted the OE leather covers back on.

I don't recall where I bought it but it's a delicate material that feels like it would do very little. however I've found in seats a little goes a long way.

I did try using 1" high density foam (good quality stuff) first and it felt way overstuffed and was horrible. Might've been better if I used the middle rod on the seat bottom but likely would've still been too much.

So it turns out the simplest of solutions was likely the best route. I do really like the factory cloth material itself but I'm just not anxious to worry about cleaning it and the leather does look nice.

You wouldn't happen to have pictures of where you put/how much you used, would you? I, too, hate the seats in my limited and would love to do something about it.

Continue to be pleased with the change.

Put some cotton batting between seat cushion and cover then do not re-attach the middle hog rings.

Hey man did you have any pics of your upgrade? My issue is with the back of the seat, it shoves my middle back out causing it to cramp. Seems like cutting the foam out would help this but you didn’t get any benefit??

I haven't worked out how to fix that issue yet. I initially tried adding foam to the top half of the seat but didn't like how that felt.

Almost all the complaints I have heard about seats pertained to the Limited seats. Are they different than the other trim levels?
I don't like leather and was stoked to see the TRD Sport came with cloth (Standard SR5 seats). My seats are very comfortable.

I was told the limited leather is the same that’s in the TRD Pro but maybe I’m wrong.

I took Berettafans lead and picked up some cotton batting. Got mine at Walmart for $5.
I have hip bursitis on my right side so was looking for a flatter seat. So I lopped off the bolsters on both sides of the foam prior to adding the cotton. I put down a half sheet on the back of the seat and two full sheets on top of that.
I did not replace any hog rings yet. I want to see how this goes before adding those back in. This setup leaves the bolster leather a little floppy, but it doesn’t bother me. The flatness of the seat was the primary goal. Seat is quite a bit softer and more importantly 1980’s flat.

I do plan to add the driver grab handle to prevent sliding out when exiting.
