Bed Rail Protecters - Any You Recommend?

In addition to fun stuff, my truck will be used for log home construction and some mining tasks which means chucking heavy stuff in and out on occasion. For those reasons... I'm looking for some durable plastic bed rail caps for the sides.
I see plenty online like these:

Problem is, they all have pretty bad reviews. Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Any of you buy a pair that you're happy with? I don't mind paying a little more as long as they fit well.

 

They look kinda flimsy. What about a Yoda used pair from a parts yard?

 

I didn't even know they made em. Discontinued? I'm nowhere near a scrapyard... maybe 70 miles.

Can you use OEM and get them Line-X'ed?

 

Just started searching but I can't find any OE offerings yet. A thick rubberized bedliner might do the trick though, great idea Dr Flex. I'm partial to Monstaliner and Herculiner for the thick apps. Hmmmm, I just might do that. I can actually get a pretty close color match from Monsta, I have a chipset of theirs.

 

Seems like the biggest issue is adhesive on the linked item. I wonder if you bed lined them, and used different double sided tape or adhesive, or figured a way to bolt them down, you may do just fine.

 

Yeah, after reading those reviews you're right. I'd use that super adhesive stuff that PHM recommended in another thread about badging removal. I've got a tube of it sitting on my Prime wishlist. It's a public wishlist yous guys, so..... you know, Christmas is coming. That would make a great stocking stuffer. Jus sayin. I've been a pretty good boy (well, except fer all that stuff I broke).

 

Yeah. I Rustoleum Bedlined my two side caps and they are holding well. I did the tailgate cap, which seems to be a differing plastic, and its lost some Liner in a few areas. I does get more abuse though. I’m considering bending some Aluminum/Stainless Brushed Cap over the existing gate cap and fastening it down.

I’m sure the same can be done with the side caps. A custom fabricator could use the old ones as templates.

 

I don't have the old ones. This truck came to me with a ladder rack. When I removed the ladder rack there was no cap, just factory painted body, all nekkid.

 

Mobtown Offroad makes a nice metal tailgate cap or metal replacement tailgate panel for the Tacoma (Tacomas have a plastic inside plate and cap). Wish they made stuff for the Tundra, such as sliders, tailgate caps, etc.

 

I'm going to add weld-on sliders in the somewhat near future.

I don't think I wanna ask a junkyard to ship. I'm leaning toward a couple of thick coats of Monsta and call er good. I think that would be more cost effective and do the job. That stuff is pretty bombproof.

 

Quick follow-up to this thread. I decided to use 2 coats of Herculiner ($25 one qt) to cover my nekkid bed rails. Happy with the results.
First I sanded er down with a 5" orbital at #120 grit, then scrubbed with dewaxer/grease remover.

First coat, thin. Both coats roller application.

After about 2 hours - second coat, med/heavy. This coat brings on the texture with careful backrolling.
