I've heard of guys unplugging under seats with battery still connected and getting an airbag warning light come on after things were hooked back up. When I took mine out to clean I didn't disconnect battery and I had airbag warning light come on. But, I checked connections and one wasn't clicked in fully and that solved the problem.

As Ron said, better safe than sorry especially as its pretty quick to disconnect a battery. That being said, if you have an aftermarket stereo, be sure to go through and take pics of all your setting if you are happy with how things sound.

I do not disconnect the battery for stuff like that. Especially with a plug where the connections are not at risk of touching and grounding out.
