So aside from door speakers, my sound install is done. The one thing I don't like is the remote bass adjustment. The installer ran the cable underneath the center console and along a natural 'crease' on the left hand (driver's) side (underneath where the tow/haul button is).

I can't help but think that there's a way to deconstruct the knob (it controls a JBL Stadium 5) and pair it up with one of those factory blanks next to the USB slots underneath the radio/HVAC controls. Anyone else done this, and if so, how did you do it (or how was it done), parts, and all that?

I did this in my last truck. I just used a Dremel to essentially bore out a spot in the blank for the the knob to come through. You need to get a 2 piece knob so you can run the control piece through the blank, and then pop the knob itself on from the “outside” of the blank. That way it covers up the boring you did and looks factory done.
I bought the parts from a local stereo shop.

That is super clean. I really like the rear window control there. Where did you get the panel that fits in the open console tray?

So I posted this a day or two ago and promptly forgot about it. LMAO My apologies. Here's the question I have.

I'd love to do that, but for some reason, the 'box' behind the knob for the JBL Stadium 5 is *HUGE* in comparison:

Do I *have* to use this particular knob, or are they pretty much all the same? If so, I can just buy the 'knob' with the smallest 'box behind it and lose the box - or for that matter, I guess I could destroy the box on the current one I have and then mount it into one of the blanks.

Man, I’ll have no idea if you can use another, cause that’s a HUGE bitch! Lol. I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t, appears to be the same connection as mine.

That's what I was thinking; was looking @ that sucker like "Ok, no WAY can I fit that behind the switch blank in the dash." LOL But yeah, they both have RJ-11 ends.

I actually bought the JL audio one just now; once I get it, I'll simply use a regular RJ-11 plug, unplug the one currently in there, and then plug this one in. If it works, then great, and I can work on installing it in the switch blank underneath the dash.

I placed mine in this location. I had the same huge knob. It works well for me here and is pretty hidden.

I have the 3D printed switch panel too. Its pretty awesome but I'm going to sand it down and make it more finished before the install.

Looks great! if its printed on ABS, you can do a acetone vapor treatment to smooth it out.

It'll only work on abs, but google it. It really smooths out the part and usually makes it a little shiny.
i haven't had much luck sanding pla and having it look decent. best thing is to use a primer, sand and then paint.

    Very cool.
I don’t adjust mine often, so I just installed it in the underside of the console lid. It’s easy enough to get to, but I don’t have to look at it.

not sure what knob you have but you shouldn't have to deconstruct anything. the knob itself should just pull off in most cases, drill the blank to size, fit and knob should have a small washer type nut for tightening.

i placed mine where i can get to it with my wrist resting on the shifter. im always playing with it. good luck.

Honestly, right after I posted this, I had some pretty gnarly pain related to my kidney procedure, so I sort of put it on hold. I'll take care of it either after lunch or after work (no later than say 5:30 PM CST) and post here.

Thanks for the inspiration everyone. Much happier now that it's clean and out of the way but still readily accessible.
