I have no experience with BAK but my Extang isn’t 100% dry; though it doesn’t flood either.
I think to get a good, dry seal I’d need to add some trim or foam around the corners...

Keep us posted as to what you decide. I'm looking at the BakFlip MX4 for my '20. The reviews I've read thus far are positive. https://bakindustries.com/bakflip-mx4/2020/toyota/tundra

For me, an important feature is that it has to allow easy access to haul dirt, gravel, and allow me to load and unload bikes and dog kennel. I've previously had canopies on my former trucks, but this is why I'm avoiding a canopy on the new truck.

I went with the Bakflip MX4. It does leak a tiny bit mainly at the corners, but nothing major. I've had mine a little over 2 years now and no issues whatsoever. Let me know if you have any questions or need some pictures.

I can accept minor water intrusion, maybe even remedy it. BAK also offers a couple of other models for the gen 1 that incorporate fiberglass. The one I linked is aluminum. Not sure I see much advantage to fiberglass.

Fiberglass probably won't ding like the aluminum.

A lot and I mean a lot of good choices out there. I went with this for similar reasons, a little security, only get a dribble of water when its sitting still in rain and keeps the snow out.

I'm leaning toward the F1. That's the most heavy duty core and has the fiberglass skin.

I’ve had the fibermax for a couple years now on my 02 .
Leaks a little guess i could fix 1 day.
Sure is nice to put stuff in the back and not worry about it missing or
    getting ruined .
Aluminum on the underside does get dinged up if not careful.
Dif stuff on top frp skin maybe plastic.
All that flipping forward does get heavy
After a while from the side.
    Maybe the f1 is lighter.
Love the full access to the truck bed when flipped all the way forward.
Wish the snap clips were metal .
Plastic breaks in the cold im down to one clip.
Time to order clips or rig something different.
Beware of other people slamming your tailgate shut with last panel not lifted .
It Will mess up the weather strip if it happens to many times.

My previously-owned 2015 I have now came with the BakFlip G2 hard cover, quad-fold cover.
It is durable. Can secure the goods in the bed when the tailgate is locked, keeps the goods inside dry, but...
DANG, it is heavy to fold back to the window!
I think the site said it is 250 Lbs. I would probably get 2-3 mpg better without it.
I had a soft, roll up cover on my Sierra.
Much easier to work with and easy to maintain. Probably less expensive, too.
That one came with the truck also.
Definitely evaluate what works best for you. Pros/Cons to both.

x2. Same experience over about the same amount of time. One thing I’ll add is that when you get it, take the time to put Cerakote on it. It will keep it looking good longer and make it easy to clean.

I use Chemical Guys Bare Bones Dark Shine detailer for the same reason...
I may need to try Cerakote next!

I haven’t done my entire cover yet, but I did a test spot of Cerakote on mine at the beginning of September. As of two days ago it hadn’t degraded at all.

I don't think there's any folding cover that is waterproof. It just depends upon how much water you're willing to tolerate. For the least amount of water seepage, you have to go with a solid cover (I'm an Undercover fan myself). But I understand the advantages of a folding cover.

You just missed bakflips Black Friday and cyber Monday deal. 15% off.

The only BakFlip folding covers that will fit the 1gen is the G2 and F1.
I had a G2 on my 07 tundra and I’ve had MX4’s on two others. I’ve had good experiences with them all. Minimal leaking and with a bed mat nothing ever got wet. The leaking was always down the sidewalls of the bed and usually only small drips that would just run under the bed mat.
I was looking at the F1 for my 05 to replace the leer that’s currently on it.

I might be ok with a solid cover, although the folders seem more practical for my uses. I looked at the Undercover site and they have nothing to offer for the 2000 Tundra, solid or folding.

Are the beds different between 2000 and 2005? I tried to put in 2000 and nothing came up, but I used 2005 (my year) and I got a hit...

I had the bakflip f1 and after about 18 months the fiberglass top surface started to breakdown bad they warrantied it out for me and even allowed me to change it to the MX4 model so far so good on that one very little water gets inside my bed. 6.jpg

    Conclusion:
Picked up a fiberglass cap from c-list for $350. In excellent condition, lock and closures work well. Struts are nice and peppy. Was off a gen 1 (from factory?)... perfect fit.

It was a purty metallic teal blue but I sanded it down and gave it the bedliner treatment to match my roof and bonnet.

Thanks! It was a sad little panda when I got it. I've done a lot of work to it, still more to go.
This is the day I picked it up about a year ago from a good friend who was the original purchaser. Truck only cost me a box of my hand tied flies (about $400 worth). Good project vehicle.
