Recently purchased some black overlays for my badges and have a question about one I received. I was expecting it to actually go over the current badge but it seems like it is made to go either on top or replace the current badge all together. On the back you can see a grid that prevents it from really covering the current badge. Is this normal or did they send me the wrong one ?

Looks like they sent the wrong one. Is that double stick tape?

Thanks guys, that is what I thought as well. Yes, the green film pulls back and its almost like a foam under it that is sticky.

Funny thing is I told them they sent the wrong ones so they sent another set and it came back the same thing. Would either of you have a link to buy the "right" ones ?

Are they OEM, through Toyota or did you go aftermarket?

If you are removing your badges to put the new emblems on instead of overlays, see how you like your truck with NO badges for a while

That large 3m surface areas is notorious for trapping moisture and debris over time and doing paint damage

I got them on Amazon, don't believe they are OEM. I will probably end up taking the badges off all together like you suggested, but wanted to try the overlays for a bit to see how I liked them.

It really isn't that hard to remove badges and replace them, I think replacement ones look much better than overlays. The overlays look kind of bulbous

Did you end up putting these on your truck? I have been looking at replacing my emblems with black ones but I'm trying to decide on what to get if I do it. I have seen a few guys just put the i Force badge on and remove the rest but I'm just unsure. If you did put these on do you have a picture of how they look?

Sorry, I did not put them on yet. The ones a got are plastic and they just don't seem like they would last long if I removed the original badge and put these on in there place. If I was going to do that I would get the metal ones they make. I was just trying the overlays to see if I liked how they look before I bought the metal ones. Most likely I am going to just remove them all together, just haven't gotten to it. I tried with dental floss but it wasn't strong enough so I need to go pick up some fishing line.

If these are the same ones I got from Amazon, they’re actually good quality, and it’s pretty easy to just take the others off and put these on. Only issue is the adhesive they use on them is garbage. Had to pull them off and put double sided 3M tape on them. Put them on my gen2 a few months go and they work great aside from having to replace the adhesive.

Yes, I agree, the adhesive that they came with definitely looks lacking.

Make sure you warm them up and do it on a hot, sunny day. Fishing line/dental floss didn't work for me. I used a flexible, soft rubber pry type shim (kitchen scraper).

They should come off quite easily. You'll be left with residue that you have to rub off (I used thumb) and then clean, polish the area etc.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately our hot days are done for the year, lol...hoping for 50 this weekend and let the sun hit them. Might try a hair dryer to heat them up as well.

Finally got around to taking the badges off...probably going to leave it this way.

Much cleaner! But I'm biased...my badges only lasted about 1200 miles.

I used the OEM overlays and they worked great. Only trick was the Limited Overlay has to be purchased separate and is expensive.. Thankfully the dealership found a couple extras and through them in.. I had NO issues with the overlays, they have been on for a bout a year and a half and look great.. No issues with the adhesive and you'd never know they were overlays.
