I ‘m looking to replace the factory NAV unit in my ride with an Apple CarPlay one and want to retain the factory backup camera. I’ve checked Crutchfield and the only units they have that can do that are over $1000. Does anybody know of a workaround to make it work?
    Thanks

I just did the same upgrade, and was in the same boat with budget too. I got the Boss BE7ACP head unit, which was the cheapest one that Crutchfield had that had apple CarPlay.
For cameras, I wanted to use the factory wiring that most trim levels have (mine is an SR5 and didn’t come with a backup camera but does have the wiring) but couldn’t do it cheaply. I ended up with an Amazon camera, that works really well. You can get the Boss head unit with a camera for only $20 more from crutchfield, I did that and used it as a forward facing camera.
There are more details and pictures here, at the bottom of page 1 and top of page 2.
    Good luck!

I have a Kenwood Excelon DNX995S. I purchased it from Amazon for $650 because Crutchfield cost a little more. It works with the factory camera and has apple car play. It looks like it is discontinued, but can still be found online. But the price has gone through the roof if you can find one. I assume the newer model, whatever it is, will also work the same.

2nd Gen Tundra Crewmax here. I bought the Phoenix PX6 Fast boot unit to replace stock radio. This radio rocks once you get speakers in your truck. I got a Kicker Hs10 sub and infinity speakers in the doors. It's not as loud outside the truck as is inside the truck but you can tell it's not stock. I am installing a 360 camera set up but ran into a few issues. I will be trying to get this handled soon.

I got a Sony HU from Crutchfield with CarPlay for under $500, and added an aftermarket backup cam for $20. Maybe that would be an option instead of trying to work around the OEM cam? Not sure why it's so expensive to integrate with the OEM camera.

For me it's a matter of physical issues, and not wanting to fight my body to properly wire a new camera in, and not being able to afford having someone else do it for me.

I got a Soundstream HU (carplay and android capable) with install kit/wires for about ($360) from Crutchfield about 2years ago. The kit kept my steering wheel buttons and let me used stock camera that came with the truck. I had the JBL/Nav Headunit. If you installed car stereos in the past it should be no problem.

Hey buddy.. can you pull up your crutchfield order and see what install kit they had you buy? I'm in a pickle.. headunit (Alpine) works fine w/ my JBL system but can't get the rear view camera to connect.
