Backup Camera

Looking to see if anyone has done this already and can point me in the right direction.

I am looking to get the video signal from the stock backup camera to show up on my aftermarket head unit. It’s a boss touch screen radio. I’m wondering where the video wire is ran for the stock back up camera. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thank you.

 

Not sure if yours is the same but you can see if you have similar harness. I just did it couple month ago on my 2013 Tundra nonjbl oem navi and oem backup camera. Replaced the oem navi with a Dasiata. Went thru the same thing. You will need this Ax-Cam6v (this will convert 12v to 6v) which is required to power on the oem camera. Also youll need RCA input if your headunit is RCA. I got them off Amazon or you can cut a RCA and use that.

Mine wire were as followed.


K6
1 -Red = Parking Brake --> wire to brake on radio
3 -White = speed sensor (didnt use)
5- Green = Reverse -> wire to radio reverse signal

K3
11: BACK UP CAMERA RED + --- RCA Positive
12: BACK UP CAMERA GRAY - ----- RCA Negative
13: BACK UP CAMERA BLACK 6.8V POWER --- wire to Ax-Cam06
14. Backup Camera White - Negative (Ground)


Ax-Cam06
Black – Ground
Blue/White = Acc or power
blue/Red = K3 pin 13 for camera power 6.8v

Thank you for the input and information. I understand the RCA cable but not the power one. The truck already powers the camera when I put it in reverse and it shows up on the rear view mirror. Do you think I would just need to use the rca cable and wire taps to tap into the video signal going to the rear view mirror?

 

Not sure if it helps but I randomly had an issue and sourced a plug and play harness from bobs automotive mirrors. He reconditions rear view mirrors and builds off the wall harnesses.

 

you can tap the rca signal but you will probably still need the reverse signal to the headunit, which will tell the headunit to display the camera when you put it in reverse
