16 years of driving and never done anything lile this. :annoyed:

Came home from work and forgot my wife left her car here while going out of town. My driveway is set up where you have to turn sharply to enter the garage. Tried to back in and heard this loud noise. Still didn't know what happened. I actually thought I ran over something that fell off a shelf. Between the sharp turn and my limo tint I could barely see the car. Still my fault obviously.

Destroyed her plastic bumper and scratched the tailgate.

My truck is fine except for some plasti dip that was removed.

Anyone want to take a stab at what this will cost me? I can buff out the scratches on the tailgate so I'll only replace the bumper.

you could try to take a heatgun to that and pull the plastic back.. doubt theres much if any damage behind. if the bumper doesnt pull back it'll likely need a new one. cost? no clue.

Probably be easiest if I remove it first. Do these just unclip and unscrew all around? I'm confident there is no damage under it either.

There’s screws and clips at the bottom and the clips in the fender well that I can remember. But honestly I haven’t had a rav4 bumper off in probably 4 years. They’re usually simple to get off though

I sure don't. I have been to 2 and unfortunately I would not recommend them to my worst enemies. Just like really good dependable mechanics, body shops are getting hard to come by.

Actually, I do know a few people that had minor insurance work done equivalent to yours at Joe Neubert in North Knoxville and seemed to be pretty decent.

They are quite large so not sure it will be a 2 day turn around.

I honestly don't think a heat gun will work and even if it does, it's going to look like shit. The bumper is creased, not just dented. And the paint is toast. I really hope a plastic bumper cover isn't $1,000 as stated above.

New oem bumper covers are about 250 my cost. So I’d assume 350is for a regular person.

Then paint. I have a body guy that charges me 100 a bumper. But that’s a friends and family price. I’d assum 600-800 for a bodyshop to paint it and that’s with the price of a oem bumper

One thing I have learned is do not rely on who your insurance suggests. 2 times I had minor work done and asked the insurance adjuster who to use as I did not know anybody. They sent me to his buddies where he sends a bunch of people to and does crappy work. These body shops will get in with adjusters and have them send work their way. I would not rely on the insurance/adjuster as they will just send you to one of their buddy's.

Yeah I'm not reporting this to insurance. If I thought it was going to be $2,000 I would, but my deductible is $500 so as long as the damage is below $1,000 I'm not reporting it.

Steel basketball goal post 8" off the edge of my driveway. Been driving and parking around it for 24 gosh damn years. March of this year I back the Tundra out and hear this BWRAAAMMM. As I jam on the brake pedal. Sure as shit. I've hit it with the corner of the drivers side bumper. 24 years. Told my wife to get out of the truck. I got the cable come-a-long out of the garage. Wrapped it around the gosh damn basketball goal post and pulled the bumper out. Got the rubber mallet and from the inside gently tapped the body out where the bumper got into. Went and completed the errand. Came home and took my side angle grinder and cut the whole 24 year steel basketball goal into small pieces. Getting old sucks!!!!!

@FirstGenVol its too creased for the boiling water trick. You'll have to pop it off (shouldnt be bad) and then try to pop the dent out with a ball peen hammer if you have one. There will be paint damage :(

so why not just buy a new bumper cover? Its just a cover isn't it? You can probably get color match rattle can from a good auto supply and clear 2k. Should be good to go all day long. I don't think it would run you over $300 bucks assuming you can get a used bumper cover and repaint it.

It looks like a nice car. I know it sucks to pay for something that is a bone head mistake, but you'll regret short cutting it. Your eye will be drawn to it every time, even if no one else notices. I would pay to have it done right. Buy the bumper and have it professionally sprayed at the very least, even if you do the labor yourself.
