This may have been posted, but we had zero clue you did not need the app to autostart your vehicle.
This works on my 2020 Platinum and my wife's 2020 Camry, but not on my son's Corolla.

Are you talking about remote start? Three clicks on the lock button on your remote?

Yes. Just hit LOCK LOCK LOCK (hold). It takes a few seconds but the lights will flash and she starts. Dealer told me the secret yesterday...if it is a secret...lol

Probably should have said in the original post. Oops. Dealer said they used to tell owners, but stopped because they want to push the $10 per month subscription. Might be old news here. Just joined.

Not sure...he just told my Platinum would and we tried it on my wife's camry and it worked. It didn't work on my son's corolla.

I believe you need to have Entune 3.0 and/or the factory remote start option.

The base SR5 doesn't have that. You have to have the OR or Sport package to do that.

I just bought a 2020; and while I don't technically need the app to do it, I *did* have to register the vehicle through connected services or whatever it's called. Soon as I did that, it allowed me to use the fob to start the vehicle.

This was news to me and it works on my 2020 Plat Tundra, has the same limitation as app truck turns off when you hit unlock, great for warming up the truck glad you brought it to our attention....

I guess on the '20 Tundra SR5 TSS Offroad package it doesn't work. I can't get it to register in my app and the console gives me some message about Connected Services not being available.

Works fine on my 1794, I do not have an app just hit lock three times and hold on the third.

Just got off the phone with Toyota and she told me that it wasn't compatible with the head unit in the truck. I would have to get another head unit. I asked 'then why is it an option on the screen'? she said i would need to go to the dealer and ask them. I guess I don't understand.

I think that the app only works if you have the premium audio system (non-JBL).

Works on my 2020 Limited with Premium JBL Audio. No app needed and no need to pay the monthly fee. Just the key fob and three clicks...hold for a few seconds on the third. Dealer specifically told me it didn't have remote start and he could have it installed for me for around $800. Crooks! I've called them and their management chain to let them know how I feel! Most probably have little need for Remote Connect, Safety Connect, and Destination Assist Connect, each of which is $8/month. https://www.toyota.com/content/entune/responsive/pdf/Connected_Services_Pricing.pdf

Per the .pdf below, I'll be able to use the key fob to remote-start the truck without downloading and paying for the app for 10 years. So, that tells me the remote start software that allows the key-fob functionality without the app is set to allow it to function through a specific date or 10 years from manufacture. After that date, the software is likely set to disable the key-fob functionality or it'll check to see if you've decided to pay your $8/month or whatever the price will be in 10 years. If you've decided to pay, the software will allow the key fob to continue working. Interesting that Toyota is doing this. Do other manufacturers make their customers pay for apps in order to have what's considered a fairly standard feature (remote start) on a $40K+ vehicle?

Yeah, you have to have the service. I called Toyota to cancel everything and the 3-click start doesn't work on my truck.

Thanks Green Thunder. I guess I'm in the trial period since I did not waive the Connected Services Registration. I won't be paying for it after the trial ends. I'll have to see if the key fob keeps working after the trial. That'll be June for me. My guess is it'll continue to work since I didn't cancel my registration, but I'll also likely be asked once a month by Toyota if I want to sign up to pay the $8/month.

Just be aware that the app is sending your driving info to Toyota and its affiliates

Not sure about affiliates and I don't have the app but my last two trucks I get a letter from Toyota telling me it's time to schedule a service apt right before I reach the 5k miles, doesn't matter if I put 5k in one month or three that letter comes right around 4-4.2k.

Dont feel bad. My wife had her Acadia for four months before I noticed the little circle on her key fob. We didn't even know it had remote start at all.

I don't have the Remote Connect app either but I agreed at the dealer to register for "Connected Services". They're definitely tracking me and sharing my information with insurance companies and who knows who else. Based on my driving (I drive like an old man) I've been offered a 35% discount on my insurance, or so the emails say. Probably a bunch of BS. All that said, if you're registered with Connected Services, they're definitely tracking you. If you're not registered, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still tracking you. I'll be interested to see what happens as I approach 5,000 miles like Rngr188.

Hell yes they do, and for less features. I traded in my 2013 F150 on the 2020 Tundra; and the XLT with a package or two is roughly similar to the SR5, except the SR5 came with FAR more features than the XLT did. Here's a list off the top of my head:

    - better build quality (naturally)
    - better media package
    - crapload of safety features (on an F150 you have to get something like the Limited or King Ranch to get this)
    - LED accent lights
    - heated rear view mirrors
    - windshield wiper de-icer
    - rear tailgate easy-down
    - easy access cabin filter
    - integrated brake controller
    - tow package (on the XLT it's an actual extra package; it just comes with the SR5)
    - 4.30 gears (yeah, this comes with all Tundras that tow, but you can't GET these standard on ANY F150)

There's more, but you get the idea. Considering all of that, even if I DID have to pay $80/year to unlock the truck/turn it on, I'm totally fine with that.

To be fair, does a 2020 XLT come with any of those features? Did a 2013 SR5?

A 2013 SR5 did not...but neither does a 2020 XLT configured almost exactly the same way my 2020 SR5 is. If I add the stuff that I can add, it gets me to right around an MSRP of $50K (MSRP on my 2020 Tundra was $48K), but it *still* doesn't have the safety features. To get those (adaptive radar, lane departure, etc.) I'd have to step up to the Lariat.

(This isn't counting any customized shocks or any of that stuff.)

I'm not saying that F150's don't have their strengths. I'm just saying that there are indeed features offered as standard on Tundras that aren't offered on F150s as standard (or at all, for that matter).
