So, admittedly I am on the newer side of being a Truck lover, so I am not as knowledgeable as most, but I am learning every day. One of the two after-market exhaust systems I've seen most recommended on here are the MBRP 3" Catback systems for about $394, and the Dirty Deeds BAM Straight Pipes budget system for a similar price.

I prefer the sound of the Catbacks to the budget version of the BAM, so I am getting ready to order them and wanted to see what my local shop would charge to install them first. He says he won't put them on because anything at that price point is junk, and may sound good at first, but within a year or so I'm going to start seeing problems and he doesn't want it coming back on him. He wants me to go with a Magna Flow system for $1,300 instead. Says if I want to put the MBRP's on, go to the nearest muffler shop.

Little shocked to be honest. I've heard nothing but praise for the MBRP's on Tundras. Thoughts?

They are junk exhausts and the build quality on them is garbage, I have a buddy who put the black cat back on his truck and the think rusted and fell apart in less than a year in Arizona where nothing rusts that fast, MBRP wouldn't even fix it or do anything for him last I heard about it.

I was unhappy with the eBay MBRP I bought, worst drone ever. Replaced in 6 months with Flowmaster. Both were real easy to install, nuts and bolts, no shop needed.
    .
edit- not sure what he is quoting but seeing around $900 with free shipping. So getting $400 bucks for an hours work with a lift.

Gotta respect the installers advice. I love brutal honesty. Maybe take a chance and go with the junk one at the muffler shop and report back in a year.

Make sure you don’t flip the local shop guy off just in case you need to recross that bridge when your tail is tucked between your legs.

I would assume most cat back systems (I know dirty deeds systems) are easy bolt on right in your driveway in under an hour. Basic hand tools will get the job done.

I would never tell anyone that they're junk and then try to upsell them a system costing 3 times what they want to spend. I can say though that my shop has replaced several MBRP systems over the years. They tend to rot out pretty quick. Their customer service isn't exactly stellar either. I've gotten the run around from them more than once and I'm an authorized dealer.

Thanks all for your replies. I had a thought: If the MBRP is stainless steel, wouldn't that keep it from rusting out?

Only places that rust are weld spots, if you paint the welds with high temp paint they will last long time. Never let somebody chop your exhaust, always use bolt ons.

So it seems that the main reason he is hesitant, and what I might argue are the issues some of the folks in this thread have with the MBRP, is that the $394 system is Aluminum. I live in a humid area of the country, with fair snow in the winter, let alone Arizona like HB above. So then, I am wondering if I would see reasonable results if I spent an extra $120 and got the T409 (Stainless) variety of the MBRP. From what I can tell, it's the same system, just stainless steel instead, which should prevent the rusting.

Those are basically the same aside from the one being stainless steel right?

Buy a dirty deeds and install it yourself. I am not that savvy with vehicles and if I can do it anyone can. It’s easy.

Don't like the DD budget system. Too raspy, and can't afford the 8" BAM right now, otherwise I would. Stainless Steel MBRP saves me about $250 over 8" Aluminum BAM, and $450 over the stainless steel BAM.

I had an MBRP system on my ‘15 Mustang GT and it was great. Sounded great and no drone. That being said, I just ordered a dirty deeds budget system.

Save your money until you can afford what you really want.

I always seem to regret it when I try to save money by getting something of lesser quality.

Exhaust Dirty Deeds 8”SS, some led lights, Osram headlights, Pro Stop brakes, Pop Lock, AFE dry air filter with charcoal delete.
Dirty deeds 8 inch stainless steel exhaust system without the resonator takes about an hour. With the resonator takes about an hour and a half. Can be done with the basic socket and wrench set on the ground. All you would need to buy is the hole saw to drill a hole in the tail pipe.

Best advice right here. Shouldn’t take too long to save up the extra cash to make up the difference between the two systems. Stop driving the truck for a month and what you save in gas money should cover you :)

All these folks here hit the nail on the head. Quality products last and out perform expectations. I love my BAM stainless 8”. Install was a breeze and it sounds great! The way I look at it and exhaust on a tundy is a luxury item. It sounds cool but that’s about it. Point is if you’re buying a luxury item, buy a luxury item. Otherwise we’d all own Nissan Frontiers.
