I have a 2020 Trd Pro. Love it so far.
One of my favorite features is the auto high beams feature. I leave it on all the time, I live out near alot of farms and not many street lights, so it gets alot of use. So far it works very well.

2 days ago I went to the dealer and had the turn signal recall fixed (changing the ground mount).
Suddenly my auto high beams are not working nearly as good. Last night I noticed they are very delayed in turning on sometimes, sometimes they didnt go off at all when an oncoming car was close, sometimes they flicked on and off when a car was coming. Definitely something wrong. But its not all the time. its sporadic.
anyone else have any issues like this after the recall fix ?

I would take it back to the dealer and find out what their fix broke and how to get the next recall in place

Interesting, I have seen a few threads here of really odd things (electrical issues?) happening after the turn signal recall. Very odd. Others were not your issue, but similar issues of things not working properly after the recall "fix".

wanted to give an update after taking it into the dealer to check out the issue.
They found nothing wrong. But they told me the highbeam camera is very sensitive and has alot of issues. They are expecting a recall because of it in the future.
If its foggy, raining, snowing, dirty windshield,etc... will mess up the camera. Also if the oncoming traffic has dirty headlights, even oxidized headlights on oncoming traffic can affect it and it could not turn off/on or even flash. If there is an error it will throw a code on the dash.
There is a setting to adjust the sensitivity. they showed me how to get into it, its in the user manual.

I'm in a hilly/curvy road area and I find that the auto-high beams are less than ideal. A lot of times, a car will be coming but they aren't in direct line of site to the camera and so the high beams don't kick off until way after I would do so out of courtesy to the other driver. Or one of us will drop below the crest of a hill and the high beams will kick back on only to kick back off after the we rise over it again and by that time the other driver has had their shadow burned into their seat. I'm not writing them off yet, but I don't see myself using that function much. Glad my '21 doesn't need the blinker fix (checked it this morning - the wires are correct).

Auto dimming headlights.... i wish I had that feature. My first car had this feature and really blew me away. It was a 92 Lincoln continental. Really advanced for its age.

It’s not perfect but I don’t expect it to be perfect. I only use it on back roads with no street lights and it works as it should 95% of the time. Good enough for me.

I find that driving in the city, the auto-dim feature simply doesn't dim the lights often/early enough to be considerate so I don't use it.

The low beams are so ridiculously bright I hardly use high beams anyway. People continually flash me thinking my high beams are on.

My buddy and I were the first to get our license in highschool 1988-1990. His folks let him borrow their Lincoln and we were blown away by the auto headlights, Soo cool. Even more amazing was that after about 209 wot neutral-drop burn-outs, there was still a transmission in the car!

Any pics of the dealer fix for the signals vs the diy method?

This is exactly why I don’t use mine. If the road is straight it works fine. In curves and hills, not so much.

I noticed the other day that mine weren't turning on automatically after the turn signal recall fix (I got mine done at the dealership as well). I didn't really think much of it at the time, just figured it was sensing other lights - but it used to be spot on.

    Function before sparkle.
Not answering OP's question, but a reference for newbies who may be wondering how the function should work. (From 2020 Tundra Owners Manual)

TL;DR - the computer relies on the camera and some basic logic to decide if it should turn off the highbeams. And since Toyota isn't developing AI into their trucks, it'll never be as smart as an alert driver paying attention to the road ahead of them and peripheral conditions.

I miss the old floor-mounted high-beam switches. I don't tend to drive with my left hand "on the ready" on the highbeam wand, and those floor switches were so easy/quick to use with the left foot.

    Yes humans are better.

No to the floor mounted switches.

Bro, I'm only "an alert driver paying attention to the road ahead of them and peripheral conditions" when I'm doing something illegal. For all the other times, auto-high beams are nice.

The auto high beams in my 2018 Tundra were never real great. I stopped using them for the most part, though every now and then I give them another shot. I also hate that when the high beams are set to auto it gives you low beams if you drop below 21 mph. Why? There's plenty of times below 21 mph where I still want high beams.

I have a 2018 Subaru Legacy too. The auto high beams in that thing I have to say are really nice. It's way more effective and I use them almost every time I'm in that car. Again, it goes to low beams when dropping below around 20 mph for some stupid reason...

Not slamming my Tundra though. The Legacy wins on the auto high beams by far, and I like that car a lot, but otherwise the Tundra has been more reliable.
